shocks
Hi! I have had a senior mid life at 75 and got a '31 Vicky in primo condition. Need to know what type of oil to put in the shocks. Any type will do? Thanks!

Re: shocks
Hydraulic oil. It comes in different weights.
The Model A vendors also sell it. Do not use Glycerine. |

Re: shocks
Had my senior mid life at 70 and got a 31 Tudor. Nothing like an old ride to help recapture your youth !! Good on ya.

Re: shocks
In my experience, most older shocks need oil that is much thicker than 20 weight.

Re: shocks
Congrats on getting your Vicky! If the car is new to you and needs fluid in the shocks, good chance the shocks are shot and will not hold oil. Suggest you try one at a time to make sure you don't leak oil all over your garage floor or driveway. Don't ask me how I know.

Re: shocks
Multi viscosity tractor hydraulic oil
Motorcycle fork oil--- many weights to choose from Auto transmission fluid can work if the shocks have no wear--- it's in my oil can, gets used for many things, what I am using in my shocks now, but my shocks are internally tight enough that closing the needle valve will stop movement Some shocks will need gear oil, some nothing helps Originally was glycerin based fluid |

Re: shocks
I am currently rebuilding mine and have an ongoing technical post on the H.A.M.B. Some of the information I have uncovered says this.
