Smile Model B carb to use on Model A ?

Hi can anyone tell me if a Zenith carb for a model B flat head will work on a model A flat head? Can you tell me if I will need to change anything to make it run right? Is there any advantage with the model B carb. I picked up one for the right price and it looks like it might fit on the Model A, I just don't know why Ford would have changed the look of the Model A Zenith carb for the 32-34 flathead?

It will work fine without any modifications.....but the B carb has the ability to deliver more fuel/air mixture to the engine at higher rpm. To fully take advantage of the extra capacity of the B, you may want to consider boring out your A intake manifold. I have a series of pictures that show the process to "Do it Yourself" on my website. (Link below.)
Look on the Services page near the bottom for a link.

In addition to Dave's comment you might cosider replacing your Model A intake with a Model B intake. The early Model B intakes had a provision for the vacuum line at the front but the later ones look a little better on the Model A.

i thought the model B manifold has the B carb slightly turned at an angle and the gav linkage would not connect correctly

There is a slight misalignment with the "B" carb on an "A" manifold. One way to correct it is to oval the bolt holes in the manifold to allow the carb to rotate enough to align the GAV. Another is to grind off the bolt threads right under the bolt heads to allow the rotation.

You will need to make your own fuel line, as the inlet is in a different location. Be sure to make it so there is a constant downward slope, with no level place, so as to prevent vapor lock. (experience talking)

If you do make your own fuel line, make sure you use the lightest walled line you can find, as some commonly used, hardware-store copper line can restrict fuel flow. Luke
