I copped a spray a while ago from a couple of members who were critical of the way I timed my engines. I follow Les Andrews' instructions and time it with the lever a couple of notches down. That means that it fires at two notches advanced at the lever. It shouldn't take a rocket scientist to work out that if the lever is now pushed all the way up, it will fire AFTER TDC. That being so, it CAN'T kick back and break an arm.
Back the the thread! Crank handles are not readily available so I don't have one in each car. In those I do, it lives under the back seat along with a few other bits and pieces all wrapped in an old towel or similar to stop the clangs when I hit a bump.

I don't have door panels in my Tudor, so the crank stays in the door. Still trying to find a decent jack to use for the car but it will likely go under the back seat. I have a few hand tools and some extra parts under there now.

I don't and won't keep anything under the drivers seat of any vehicle.
I learned that lesson many years ago when going down a rough mountain road in a loaded 3 ton truck and the tool bag under the seat worked it's way forward and jammed itself amongst my feet and the pedals while trying to downshift.

Thanks for the reply's,i have a wooden box under the drivers seat to store small items like lightbulbs, parkingcard, wallet, camers etc.
The model a tudor has no storage space available and the doors have no pockets and you always have small stuff you don't want to carry in your pocket so i have this box.
Being a tudor the passenger seat flips up for acces to the back so i don't want to put the handle there, putting it under the backseat i have never thought off.
Today i tried and it fits, but the jack i have would not fit, that is it will go under the seat but when you sit on the seat the jack hits your ass when you go over a bump in the road.
Actually i don't want it on the floor behind the seats because my 2 dogs can hurt their feet on it.
Have to find another solution............

Big hammer i tried to fit the jack there, problem is the jackhandle is fixed to the jack because it was broken.
I have a bottle jack but i like the old mechanical jack to go with the car.
Perhaps i have to find another model A jack?..............

I keep mine in the trunk of my Coupe. I'm one of those idiots that likes to hand start the engine to demonstrate 'the old ways' to city slickers.

I knew an old-timer that kept his hanging out the crank hole the way it did on a Model T. His '31 CC Pickup really was a daily driver, in fact until about 1998 when he stopped driving it was really his only transportation.

Guys would tell him he was nuts...it was going to get caught in the Ratchet Nut and spin like a propeller...it was going to fall out...it was going to get stolen.

In reality, it never gave him a lick of trouble hanging there.

I can't say I don't always carry things that are not held down by some kind of clamp but I do think about two different wrecks that I have lost friends by something in the back hitting them in the head from tools or jacks that were not secured down when they hit something in front.
