Body Wood
Can anyone recomend a good body wood supplier for Model A Fordor Sedans? I have a 60-C Briggs Steelback. I have heard that wood kits for different suppliers do not fit and drilled holes do not match up with origianl patterns. These kits are very expensive and I don't want one that does not fit. Please help if you have any experiences with any of these kits from wood suppliers. Please give me details and names of the suppliers.

Re: Body Wood
I went with Classic Wood in North Carolina. I bought and installed a wood kit for my 28 special coupe and 29 phaeton made by them. I believe several suppliers sell wood kits made by them. Fordor wood kits are $$$, as they is some much wood in Briggs and Murray bodies.

Re: Body Wood
Brother A wood in AZ is also supposed to be good. They were recommended by Dan Gamble of the Townsedan club. I am at work don't have their contact info. If you want it I can post it when I get home. Also, they all will need some working over to make them fit.

Re: Body Wood
I used a Kit from Bert's for my Special coupe. I was happy with the fit.

Re: Body Wood
Hey Guys, please remember that there is a HUGE difference between an open-car wood, and a Fordor Sedan, ....not even taking into consideration of a unique body such as the 60C. I spoke with the OP this morning by telephone and gave him my thoughts but I also suggested he get some feedback from other Fordor owners here.
Just to reinforce what I am suggesting, below are a few pictures of wood supplied by one of the very vendors mentioned above. When the wood is not cut to the proper shape and dimensions, no matter how much you tweak it, the sheetmetal is not going to attach to the wood infrastructure properly. At that point, all the structural strength is gone. . |
