fuel pump comment
To make a long story short, my mechanical fuel pump, which probably has less than 5000 miles service, is completely inoperable. The pivot holes on both halves of the push rod lever actuator are so elongated from wear that nothing happens when the push-rod pumps it up and down. It appears to be a cheap aftermarket pump but I wouldn't have expected this failure after such a short amount of time. Am I missing something? What's wrong? Ever seen this before?
I bought a very old vintage core on-line, rebuilt it and installed it this morning so getting on the road is not a problem. Guess I'll just reuse the perfectly good lever actuator from the vintage fuel pump in the aftermarket pump and have a spare. |

Re: fuel pump comment
5000 miles is awfully early, but yes, it has always been an issue. There was even an aftermarket product sold to take up the slack under the cup on that actuator after it developed that wear.

Re: fuel pump comment
We are some what lucky here in Australia, we can modify a real common holden pump to fit and they work great, one on the 33 has been on since 1998 and never missed a beat, and has a hand prime lever too.

Re: fuel pump comment
Not wear, it's how it was designed to make assembling...by 6 yr old off shore residents...
quicker...the failure was in the diaphragm. Check any off shore pump most all are like that. The clue is the hex head on the six 10-32 cap screws not slotted philister head. Charlie ny |
