Anyone pull a one wheel trailer behind their A?
One of my brothers used to pull a one wheel trailer behing his Model A.
It fastened to the rear bumper. It was easy to back up. He sold it when he sold his Model A. Does anyone own one? How do you like it? Does anyone know of one for sale? Thanks, Neil |

Re: Anyone pull a one wheel trailer behind their A?
There was one up the street when we were kids, the old guy had it behind a VW.
He was a scientist ,my Dad told me there was a fine line between a genius and a nutcase and he was a prime example,he cut his lawn with a pair of scissors, owned a Vw and had this weird trailer with two tow balls and one wheel. Lawrie |

I still have an Allstate trailer. These seemed to be really popular behind Model-As back in the 70's but you rarely see them used now.
For those curious, click on http://www.singlewheel.com/ to learn about them. . |

Re: Anyone pull a one wheel trailer behind their A?
We had one years ago. My father built it out of plywood and angle iron. Got the wheel assembly and bumper clamp rig from Sears. This was probably in the late 40's. We towed it behind my mother's '41 Chevy sedan from PA to WY. The wheel was nothing more than a huge castor. The tire had a tube in it. It was my bother's job each afternoon at the end of our driving to check the air while mom bought gas. I don't recall her having any troubles on the trip west.

Re: Anyone pull a one wheel trailer behind their A?
My buddy has one behind his 31 roadster and has been to the east coast , west coast , Mexico and canada. I belive Alaska is next and who knows were else. Its a Alstate and they can't say enough good thing about it. You see the roadster is a hotrod and lost its fenders long ago and no room for a spare in the trunk. So not only is the trailer carrying clothes but spare parts and a tire. I have been looking for one as well and seem elusive.

Re: Anyone pull a one wheel trailer behind their A?
My friend bought a small aluminum trailer that folds up into a large suitcase. He found it fairly low priced at Iola about 7 years ago. I don't remember if it had one wheel or two though.

Re: Anyone pull a one wheel trailer behind their A?
In Brent's picture the trailer has just backed up and the caster wheel is facing the rear. It will rotate 180 when the car goes forward. Here's the mechanism:
If you get one make sure you get a double-sided white wall for it so it will match the rest of the car. |
