29 cab, paint or not?

I'm starting on the cab of my 29 ccpu with new read cab panels. I'm guessing the best way to do this is to prime and paint all edges of the panels before putting it together. Do I need to use the same color paint, haven't bought that yet. Thanks Pete

You may want to pre-fit all the parts,....Howell's tin is short in length..

I totally agree with Dudley, prefit the panels for the cab especially if they are repro parts. I don't understand "with new read cab panels" in your post. Did you mean repro instead of read? If you are using reproduction panel, especially from the dreaded Howell's, you will probably need to do some fitting on most of them.

The original would have been primed and then assembled as a unit - and then painted. Leaving the middle rear panel "double fold" (the edges and the funny crimped together mid-panel retainer) to rust together (making removal virtually impossible.)

You allude to "best practice" and probably to be followed in today's assembly sequence: paint (or prime) sections where the sheet metal is assembled flange face to face, and then when assembled put another coat of paint over the whole thing.

The original Ford truck bodies did not have a lot of pre- or post prep done to them. Probably assembled in primer and usually not even finish rubbed out to remove orange peel or bring up a gloss.

Does anyone even sell the "double fold" today? I would cut mine with a zip wheel if I could be assured of a replacement.
