Neat picture taken for promotional purposes of the new 1961 Ford Country Squire. These are great looking wagons.

Very nice looking car, a 1961 Ford Galaxie Town Sedan. Records show that Ford built 141,823 of these 4 door sedans, and it seems that they have all disappeared?

Field of Dreams. Back in 1961, there were plenty of 1961 Ford Falcons, Fairlanes and Galaxies as this picture shows. It must have been early in the model year, as I can spot quite a few previous model 1960 Ford Thunderbirds in different rows. It also appears that they are all painted the same colour. Where have they all disappeared to?

Unhappy Re: 1961 Fords - Where have they all gone?

A large number of '61 & others in the era were lost to demolition derbies in the 1970s & even the 80s. Their value was rock bottom during that time unless it was a well preserved convertible or 2 door hardtop.

Ford had a publicity stunt in which all the residents in some small town (I think in Indiana or somewhere in the upper midwest) were given a Ford product to drive for either a week or a month. It must have been in the late summer-early fall of '60 when they did this as the T-birds in the photo are '60's and not '61s - they were introduced very late in the season, i.e. November '60. I know there's more info on the promotion but I don't have it handy.

Sal, I finally found the second one after blinking about 50 times.
Then after giving my eyes a rest for a few minuets, I found a 3rd
Starliner about 3 rows up from #2, and about 3 inches to the right.

Now, i'm going to go find my bottle of Vizine eye drops.

Remember in the early & mid 60s when Ford used to have its annual White Sale. I recollect seeing many huge billboards advertising the event in late summer during those years.

I reckon that I found 4 Starliners in this picture. I tried to mark them with a red X.

I spotted this really nice '61 Starliner at a local show back in March (pre-corona) and couldn't help but do a walk around. Very rarely see any '61's as many others have noted much less a Starliner. Pop said the dog dish caps on this car are incorrect. They looked right to me for a '61. Anybody confirm that?

Your father's right - those are for a '65-'66 (need to verify '64 to make sure); '63 ('64 same?) is a different design altogether with a small dished center cone and a shallower profile. '61-'62 have a concentrically-ringed outside edge, projected small cone center and F O R D spelled out near the outer circumference of the cap - see posts #10 and #44 to this thread.

Too bad the guy used older-style two-barrel carbs on an aftermarket intake instead of the factory 2300 Holleys, but I only say that because I'm knee-deep in putting together a couple sets of 2300s for Galaxie and T-bird tripowers - I just need the stair-stepped Galaxie intake, center C1AE-AU (or is it -AV?) carb and some miscellaneous pieces like the fuel filter can/bracket and dual point distributor to complete the Galaxie setup.

Those Rochester 2GC carbs aren't really older. And likely slightly newer than the original tri power carbs. I agree it's not original, but if the owner doesn't care, I'm sure it runs just as good.

Another very nice 1961 Ford Starliner. Yes, the Dog Dish Hubcaps fitted are 65-66 model as previously mentioned. Still very nice.

Ford "dog dish" Hubcaps. The above picture shows the different Ford "dog dish" Hubcaps from 1957 to 1966. Starting from the left, we have the 1957-1959 (white centre). The next one in with the black around the outside is correct for the 1960 Fords. The third hubcap in is correct for the 1961 and 1962 Fords. This is the style that is correct for the above Starliner. Fourth is with all the lines around the edge is correct for the 1963 Fords. Second last with the cross bar is correct for the 1964 Fords, while the hubcap on the right is correct for the 1965 and 1966 Fords. I hope that this Ford "dog dish" identification helps.
