29 Ma steering
Son has a 29 roaster that steers terrible [very hard ] WE have a couple of the later boxes that appear to be ok. He [son] says they do not fit is that so ? or can they be made to fit .Help needed . Johnny.

It might be easier to go ahead and fix the steering trouble with the original equipment. A model A can steer quite easily when restored. Other boxes can be made to work, but why?

It depends on what the later boxes are. Are they even Ford? If they are Ford the '30-'31 shouldn't be a big problem. The '32 -'36 are a small problem and the '37 and up are a big problem. How about a few pictures of each of the later boxes? My advice would be to rebuild what you have or contact Randy Gross (https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showt...light=steering) and replace the box with a later truck box.

Not to rain on your parade, but you might need more than a steering box restoration.
A correctly redone Model A has very light steering when underway. How are your king pins? I would check over the whole front end. I would also, if possible, rebuild the steering box that is on the car. If to far gone, you most likely also have many other problems that need attention. |
