It might be easier to go ahead and fix the steering trouble with the original equipment. A model A can steer quite easily when restored. Other boxes can be made to work, but why?

It depends on what the later boxes are. Are they even Ford? If they are Ford the '30-'31 shouldn't be a big problem. The '32 -'36 are a small problem and the '37 and up are a big problem. How about a few pictures of each of the later boxes? My advice would be to rebuild what you have or contact Randy Gross (https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showt...light=steering) and replace the box with a later truck box.

Not to rain on your parade, but you might need more than a steering box restoration.

A correctly redone Model A has very light steering when underway.

How are your king pins?

I would check over the whole front end. I would also, if possible, rebuild the steering box that is on the car. If to far gone, you most likely also have many other problems that need attention.

If it is a later 29 and has the two tooth steering box it just might be adjusted incorrectly and causing it to be too tight. If you have Les Andrews volume 1 book it explains how to do it.
