Default 1940 Ford coupe front spring

Has anyone used the Posies Super Slide Spring # 2040 on the front of a 39 or 40 Ford? If so how did it work out and measuring from the ground to lower edge of fender what is height? Did it lower 2" as advertised? I am talking stock 40 with stock axle and a flathead and running 205/75/15 tires.

You might want to post this on the HAMB, too.

I'll measure mine today. I have that exact setup on my 40.

Ken: Wouldn't it be more accurate to measure from the ground to the bottom surface of the frame rail below where the bumper bolts are located. Do this on both rails. Fenders may have been adjusted up or down for front sheet metal fitment. Here's an example where the front fender has been mounted lower to make the car appear lower than it really is.

You will probably have to replace the rubber bump stops with shorter ones. If you tube shocks you will probably have to get shorter shocks.

Nope, stock bump stocks will work. Been there, done that.

I just had the eve reversed on the front spring but really won't know the result until I set the engine is back in.In theory that should lower about 1". Not sure if that will be enough though. It sets like a gasser without the engine in. I'm hoping that 600 lbs. engine trans. will lower the front back down 2 or 3 inches or I will be replacing this spring. I'm just trying to close some distance between tire and fender. Reversing eye on rear worked very well. I'm thinking a true 2" below stock on the front is where I want to be.

I have a very early model year '41 and put in Posies Super Slide 2037-40L, which was supposed to give a 2" drop. The actual drop I got was less than 1", probably because the stock spring I removed was worn and sagged a bit. The spring is quiet and rides very well.

Whatever you do, be sure you have the correct spring shackle angle when you are done. Something close to 45 degrees.

it would depend if your old spring was worn , I put a posies rev eye rear in my 41 coupe and there was no difference in height ,call posies and they said to drive it that was 5 years ago still no change, my old spring was flat with no arch

Sid, See post #3 here.

When you installed just the Posie spring as in pic. 1 (black wheels) did you need to heat and bend the pitman arm? That is really the look I am after.

The pitman arm should not need to be bent.

Sid: No, when I installed only the Posie spring on the front suspension, I did not have to bend the pitman arm or make any other alterations or modifications to any other part like the drag link, tie rod or steering arms. Stock 40 sway bar also bolted back in with no problems. This is referring to the black wheels photo. Tires were 6:00x16.

Later, when I installed the 4 in dropped axle I had to install dropped steering arms that bolt to the OEM spindle/backing plate. This was not a problem as I made sure the bolts did not bottom out in the steering arm threaded holes. Nostalgia Sid can also bend your stock steering arms, if desired. Red rims are 15 inch. Been working good for many years.

Measuring the bottom of the fender edge directly below the headlight is 12" to the floor. Measuring the top of the wheel opening to the floor is 26".

Thank you very much guy's. I think I'm going to order a 2040 Posie and be done with it. As said earlier I'm running 205/75/15 tires. If I get the lower edge
of the fender with-in close to an of the tire I'll be happy.
