Just throwing this back up - si many options hard to make a call on the "right" best tran oil for pre ww11 cars.

Reposting this because there are so many options for pre ww2 transmission oil it's tuff to pick one.I've scanned many threads and it wants to make me say it really doesn't matter as long as the oil won't go after the soft metals.

600W goes in the differential too I believe?

Is is ok to top it off with something else maybe?

To a certain extent, your comment has merit however the thicker lube was meant to cushion the impact of the gear's pitch angle. This is also desirable in the steering gearbox. Most likely you will never drive your car long enough to see the adverse effects of the lighter lubes.

Additionally, the heavier oil aids in transmission gear changes as it slows the gears faster to allow quicker changing without grinding. One other thing that the heavier oil does not do is foam (as quickly) due to aeration. In the differential, besides what I just mentioned, it provides some cooling effect since the heavier lube clings to the rotation of the ring gear allowing better heat dissipation.
