Default 1929 Sport Coupe Front Spring Clamp

As I disassemble the frame and axles, I found the front spring clamp has two bottom plates below the front spring. I have not seen this before on a Model A and don’t think it’s original. It appears that the front U-bolts may be too long ???

The front passenger side frame horn is damaged and the front cross-member has been replaced, so the spring has been removed at some point in the past.

Many thanks for helpful advice -
Jim

Definetely not original. Your U bolts are too long. Probably for a different model with a leaf spring with more leaves.

I think you’re right. One side of one of the U-bolts has been poorly cut, so I think the U-bolts may not even be for a Model A.

One bottom plate has a hole in it and the other does not. I’m guessing the one with the hole is the correct one to accommodate the bolt through the center of the leaf spring.

Thanks - Jim

Yes the hole is for clearing the spring bolt. As I remember they were just a depression not a through and through hole. I have only seen ones as a depression.

One of the bottom plates has a hole; the other has a depression. The one with the hole looks like it was made that way - not modified.
