After reading Neil Wilson’s article in the thread “1929 Pickup interior I have become very curious. In his thread he included an attachment concerning “AA”s .
I looked through all of the attachments and was very interested in two models:
210-A Panel Delivery Murray which had 1502 made. AND
300-A DeLuxe Delivery which had 1143 made.
The reason for the interest is a few years ago, (late ’80’s HA! HA!) I looked at one in Little Compton, R.I. which was one of the above but really didn’t know what I was looking at! I actually returned for another viewing maybe two months later. BUT I determined that because there was NOTHING above the windshield and I didn’t have resources at the time to find out what belonged there, I did not purchase it!
I do remember two distinct points of the truck. It had the spare tire in the driver's side fender WITH an indented driver door. I also had both rear doors although, although one was laying inside.
So, my questions are of the total 2,645 units manufactured are there many that still have survived and drivable. Also, does anyone know of personnel photos of either model?
LASTLY, does anyone know of this truck in the Little Compton, R.I. area??? What a dreamer I am!!!

The 210-A Panel Delivery was installed on the AA157 wheel base chassis (see attached Ford archive photo). It came standard with dual wheels.

The 300-A De Luxe Delivery was installed on the AA131 wheel base chassis (see attached FMAATC club member owner). It came with single rear wheels.

Both came with the left-front-fender-wheel-carrier and an indented door for tire clearance.

I don't know how many survivors there are (but not many). The twelve AA closed body types are shown @ https://aafords.com/closed-bodies/

Neil Wilson - First, Thanks for the response! Did both models have the indented door for the spare? If one was going to do any traveling surely would have to have a Mitchell O/D or different Ring & Pinion or Both!

No, they look like the correct and rare deluxe AA wire wheels.

All the aa wire wheels I have seen look just the same as regular a wheels but much stouter. The ones on the diaper van look like later Ford wheels. My edit: I see the word deluxe so I am not familiar with those.

See Neils post below. They are rare and even more rare are the hub caps. The only reason I know anything about them, is because I know someone that has an X hearse that has them on it.

Cape Codder, Yes, both body types had the indented door.

AA steel spoke wheels – The 1927—er/1929 had steel spoke wheels. Some 1931—1932 AA's were fit with steel spoke wheels which required special hub/drum assemblies. Both the wheels and hub/drum assemblies are rare.

Are the rear bumpers on the 300-A original? They look like passenger bumpers somehow installed on the side.

Those rear bumpers, and the ones on ambulances and hearses are the same and that is correct. I understand that paddy wagons used a different full length rear bumper.

The AA Deluxe bumpers were standard on several models and were upgrades on others.

The Standard Police Patrol did not come with rear bumpers but it appears by era photos that many departments opted to add them.

Yes, original AA rear bumper – example attached.


RGJS – page E-93 – AA Double Bar Rear Bumper

Beginning in 1931 a double bar rear bumper was available as factory optional equipment for body types 270-A, 275-A, 280-A, 285-A, 290-A, and 300-A.


There were two designs (differences unknown). The second design began production in March 1931. Figure 2 shows an example of a right bumper guard setup (likely design 2). The fender guards were chrome plated like the A chassis. Refer to Area 15 for details.The bar spacers at each end were part of the arms (see Area E4). The bumper bar end bolts were raven finish with gloss black enameled heads.


The clamp was an AA clamp which used a 7/8” hex, 9/16"-18 (raven/black paint) nut and lock washer. The AA clamp backing plate did not extend to the top and bottom of the bars unlike the A chassis plates.
