Default stuck in the 60's

Machinist quoted $250.00 to replace the plugs and grind crank .010-.010 on 51 merc crank. Is that excessive or am I stuck in the 60's? Thanks, Harley

With the high hourly rates, I'd say if done right its worth it.

I just had a Merc crank ground (.010/0.10) at Hunt's Machine in Albany, New York (http://www.huntsmachine.com/index1.htm). I
get a discount because I go thru a friend who has a shop but no crank grinder ($$$$$$$$). $108 for the grind, $19 for degrease, and $25 to shot blast the crank. I had removed the crank cleanout plugs and replaced them when I got it back. Excellent work. Just be sure you check out their work.

I see that the wise men have turned their backs on your crank and the dog does not seem very interested. I would say that your crank is suspect.

harley:
If I were paying I would think it's a lot of $$$$
But if I was doing the work I would say MAN we have got to get these rates up.....

When you consider the cost of the machine / the cost of opperating a buisness / the paper work to cover the cleaning fluids & cutting oils.

Unfortunately it 2014 not 1960!!!!
