Default 1941 California Inspection Sticker

I have acquired a reproduction California Inspection Sticker for the 1941 year. I would like to determine where the sticker might have been placed on the windshield in 1941?

In my state they were in the bottom left corner of the windshield, not sure when NYS started using them. Post a picture of your sticker.

Sorry I can not post a picture but the sticker came from Bob Hoyt's collection of reproduction items and he is on line if you Google Bob Hoyt. Bryan

1940 I have looked at the sites identified and so far I have not located a specific location for the 1941 California Inspection sticker. I do appreciate the input. Bryan

Here's a bit more info. It seems like the lower right hand corner of the passenger side windshield is the correct location in most states.

and

Scroll down and you will see where the gasolene sticker was affixed to the windshield in the
The Big Sleep movie (1945) of Humphrey Bogart's car. No doubt that movie was filmed in California.

It isn't an 'Inspection' sticker. During the war, vehicles were issued gasoline ration stickers. Most common were 'A' stickers. B, C, etc. were issued to Doctors and other vital
persons. On the inside of an original ration sticker was the request to drive under 35MPH to save tire wear, as Japan seized our source for rubber.

If I may the sticker I have does not seem to have anything to do with fuel rationing. It has a Department of Motor Vehicles number on the front and on the back which would face inward it talks about the need to be inspected again within 30 days of the date the vehicle was last inspected. Clearly at the top of the inside portion it states ' California Inspection Receipt '. Bryan

I think those inspection stickers were for big trucks. They were inspected at weigh stations manned by the Highway Patrol. I've never seen those stickers on any old original car and I have looked at a lot of old originals. I don't ever remember my dad talking about having his cars inspected by the CHP. I started driving in 1962 and we never had an annual inspection.
The 1969 sticker in the photo was either for trucks or for cars brought in from out of state that were inspected for ID numbers and possible smog equipment in order to be registered in California.

In the mid to late '60's/early '70's the CHP conducted roadside vehicle inspections. If you passed you got a sticker for your windshield which allowed you to get waived through subsequent roadside inspections. Don't know how long the sticker was good for. Never got one but I did get several fix it tickets as a result of the inspections. Some deserved and some more CS.

As an aside, the 35 mph speed limit wasn't a request was it? I thought that was national, passed by congress?

Interesting as I don't recall ever recall seeing roadside inspections here in NorCal. Maybe a SoCal thing?

I remember them in SOCAL, every car or truck I got pulled into the inspection lane
got dinged for headlights out of adjustment.

That is a good tip Bob, do you remember where the inspection stickers were placed on the glass after inspection?

The car I own was a Los Angeles car and was last plated in southern California in 1958.
