Rattling after installation of new water pump
I have installed a new water pump: leakless/ball bearing water pump A-8502 Sny...
Since then something rattles. I have uploaded a short video: https://youtu.be/WypPcsnN6Ww Maybe someone has an idea? Greetings from Bavaria |

Re: Rattling after installation of new water pump
Remove the fan belt and see if it stops the noise.

Re: Rattling after installation of new water pump
The fan pulley taper may be worn. That wobble looks bad to me.

Re: Rattling after installation of new water pump
Did you check the clearance between the back end of pump shaft and the cylinder head?

Re: Rattling after installation of new water pump
the fan looks like it is not tight to the shaft, take a hold of the fan and check for it being loose.

Re: Rattling after installation of new water pump
Mine developed an intermittent vibration and soft clattering sound that was most noticeable while the engine was idling. I thought the fan seemed to be tight on the shaft but old guy showed me something. He lowered a large shop rag to where it made contact with the end of the rotating fan blades. When he did this the vibration and noise stopped. Turns out that the fan was actually loose but only so loose as to move when the engine was running.

Re: Rattling after installation of new water pump
Hello on mine I had to grind down some of the cast end diameter as the repo aluminum blade was rubbing against it .

Re: Rattling after installation of new water pump
The fan wheel was actually loose, I could even move the nut slightly. Now I pulled the cotter pin, and was able to retighten the nut about 3/4 turn. Then set a new cotter pin. The shaft did not turn when I tightened the nut. The rattling was gone. After 45 minutes of driving, there was play on the fan wheel again and the rattle was back. The nut is still splined.

Re: Rattling after installation of new water pump
Now that it's been run loose I think you are going to find the key is either destroyed,or out of position. It can also tear up the inside of the tapered part of the pully. It is pretty easy to push the key out of position when sliding the fan onto the shaft. You will think it is tight, but will start to rattle shortly. Is the fan original steel? Modern 2 or 4 blade steel? Modern aluminum? That blade is going to have to come off to get a look at it to be safe and sure.

Re: Rattling after installation of new water pump
Thank you very much. I have steel with 2 blades. I will disassemble it again. That means I have to loosen the radiator again and fold it forward.

Re: Rattling after installation of new water pump
some fans and or shafts were made with the wrong taper. it will keep getting loose even if you keep tightening it until it gets your radiator.
