But then you would not be able to experience real Model A'ing!

Maybe we could find one of those screen seat and back cushion's we used back in the 50's and 60's that allow air to circulate between you and the seat, remember they was about 1/2" or so thick with a wire mesh?
I'll be looking for a couple for our Phaeton..
I had used one in a 50 Ford I had, "WORKED"

Two items that will help. A heat shield over the muffler works wonders. I also cut a piece of carpet padding (non-foam) and put it under the floor mat. The pad also makes it quieter. Gar Williams

I went to Ohskosh this year in my CC Pu. I stopped at the Home Depot insulation department and bought a roll of insulation that was 24" wide by maybe 15 feet? it was aluminum looking on both sides and had a plastic? bubble type center. It was not much money. I placed it under the floor mats full coverage and also tucked it up under the dash firewall area. It made a big difference in the temp. We ran there from Minnesota to Wisconsin and the temps were in the mid 90's . This is a cheap alternative to the formed panels that the vendors sell. I had enough left over to give to another Model A owner for his firewall and then some.

i have a firewall insulation mat . yes it helps , but insulate the heck out of the floor !!!
** be sure to fill the wiring block on the firewall also . lots of air comes thru there & the steering column .

I put the QuietRide firewall panel in, as well as the cowl side panels. Makes quite a difference for sound and heat. Plan on doing the rest as I open things up. The floor isn't too bad since it has carpet with about a 1/2" pad (not foam) under it.

Do you know about the detent notches in the windshield swing out arms? They are supposed to put the windshield at the optimum angle for feeding outside air into the curved dash rail and then downward to the floor. Small comfort.

Exactly what Steve said on the above post -
Play with your windsheild "angle" to get the best airflow down to the floor.
I've been having the same issues with my '31 pickup - I'm sure glad I plugged all the holes the prev. owner had in the firewall - I also removed the manifold heater valve (I didn't want to take a chance of fumes in the cab with the grandkids - or complaints from the wife )

I bought some rubber pads at the feed store, I think they are used in horse trailers... cut them...really did a nice job to quiet down a sedan I was working on..now I am thinking of buying more and gluing it inside the body against the to deaden the noise.

I have a molded firewall insulator and Dynamax insulation on floor boards. Also have muffler heat shield. We drove from Illinois to Vicksburg two years ago. The temp was up to 104 and the insulation really helped if you stay moving.

I was surprised how much the air through the dash cooled us.We did not overheat and the model A ran just under 180 degrees.
