Default 29 instrument cluster light

Starting to go thru some things on this 29 sport coupe, I did get the optima battery bracket built and installed in the orginal spot, haven't started the car yet but one glitch at a time, the owner didn't have the ign key and it was a standard type ign switch with a screw on bezel on the outside, I got a repop fake looking pop out switch and put it in, looks good, while I had the dash off I noticed the dash light was wired to the ign switch and the other wire went to ground, I'm thinking the dash light should come on with the head light switch not the ign switch, my old Clymer book has a wiring diagram but it looks to me that the dash light is wired hot all the time thru there also, what am I missing.
