’28 Open Pickup Rear Lamp Bracket
My Apologies!!
I really screwed up in my posting(s) in "1928 Open A/Ford pickup". I attached a close-up photo of my A13470 ‘rear lamp and license bracket support’ in support of information concerning the arm for my early ’28 open pickup (76A/78A). After a couple of ‘eagle eye’ fellows corresponded with me I went to the garage and wire brushed off paint. Regrettably, the A13470 photo is NOT from the bracket on my truck but rather in my spare (maybe to be sold later) box. The numbers on my other bracket (which seems to fit appropriately to my extended sub rails) are A13470-B GL6. This little exercise now raises other questions: Data from 1-1-28 parts book: A-13470 rdstr., coupe, sport coupe * (no mention of 76A/78A pickup) * (not illustrated in the JStandards) Data from 10-1-28 parts book: A-13470-A pickup, panel delivery, bus * (the JS also states “28-29 pickup and all AA chassis”) A-13470-B rdstr., coupe, sport coupe * (not illustrated in the JStandards) Data from 7-1-31 parts book: (no mention of 76A pickup) A-13470-AR 78A (pickup box), 79A (panel delivery), AA chassis (28-29) A-13470-B AA chassis except 85A-B, 195A and dump bodies (29-31) According to the MAFII parts data base: A-13470 has the following engineering drawing dates 11/17/1927; 1/1/1928; 1/4/1928; 9/24/1928; 10/16/1928; and 11/1/1928, so it has many permutations! I can envision the A13470 (and possibly the A13470A and AR) being mounted to the pickup box with the license tag showing on the 'outside' of the box. However, my open cab pickup has the longer (+2”) bed and the early style extended sub rails with 3 punched holes at the extreme rear for mounting the lamp bracket. This configuration is supported by factory photo showing the tag ‘under’ the pickup box (instead of the later configuration with the tag outside the box/near the fender). Unfortunately, that photo does not show any details of the bracket in question and I have no information as to when this subrail/long bed was discontinued. All of this begs the question for me “what is correct for my truck”. Would greatly appreciate any counsel on this topic. ... and thanks to the 'eagle eyes' out there Last edited by Charles Reese; 01-02-2011 at 07:03 PM. |

Re: ’28 Open Pickup Rear Lamp Bracket
The stamped steel bracket (see attached) was used on the AA platform and was a carryover T part. A T vendor catalog shows this bracket as being for the T pickup. I have seen it on TT platforms as well.
The bracket for the early A pickup would require a forged steel bracket with a triangular base (with three bolt holes). The arm would have to go down (and maybe to the right) since it bolts under to pickup. There must be some early A pickup folks that have knowledge of the correct bracket (i.e. support). Early meaning before April 1928! |

Re: ’28 Open Pickup Rear Lamp Bracket
Steve,
You can see it in any 1927 Ford Archive photograph showing the left side of an AA truck. You can see it in the Lang's catalog as a T pickup tail lamp bracket. Regards, Neil |

Re: ’28 Open Pickup Rear Lamp Bracket
Hello Dudley,
My note above states that the bracket in my picture will not work! It is for the early AA platform. |

Re: ’28 Open Pickup Rear Lamp Bracket
I would figure out some way of contacting Hanz 'Doc' Kalinka in Wisconsin.

Re: ’28 Open Pickup Rear Lamp Bracket
Neil,
Reread your post, I understand. Ford could have used Coupe/roadster bracket, inverted, ( quick an dirty) ? Dudley |
