Default 21" Wheels value

I would like to get a general idea what average condition used 21" wheels would be worth. He has 5 of them and they would need refinishing. Thanks.

If they are indeed in good, useable condition such that they are straight and can withstand a sandblasting, he can expect to get $150 to 200 dollars for the five. Model A rims are not rare. Wayne .

Here in Wisconsin, average 21" wheels sell at the swaps for $20, give or take. Watch out for cracked centers, bent spokes, wallowed out lug nut holes, and excess rust. If you plan to drive your car, I would spend a bit more for nice wheels, rather than patching up badly rusted/damaged wheels.

I usually pay about $20 to $30 for a decent 21" rim, maybe a little more for a real nice one. There are so many problems with model A rims, especially the 21" ones - excessive rust pitting, flat areas on the outer part indicating the rim was run without a tire, separated or badly bent spokes (slightly bent spokes can be fixed), cracked center part (almost always where a long spoke is), wallowed out lug holes, rusted outer part, and excessive run-out. If you can take a lug nut to check the 5 holes and if you can mount the rim on a spindle and spin it, that can help insure you are buying good rims, beyond the visual inspection.

Rusty, how much is excessive run-out? Is 1/8 inch OK or can a person go out to 1/4 or so? Also what about out of round or flat spots? What should be the max on out of round?

I would limit the runout and side wobble to 1/8". Dave in our club made a nice wheel straightener, and the spoke can also be heat shrunk to pull the wheel straight.

I agree with Tom, 1/8" max run-out. 1/4" is too much in my opinion.

In Illinois you can purchase a used 21" wheel for about $20-25.
