Default Wreck, passenger thrown from vehicle.

The Savannah- Chatham Metro Police Major Accident Investigations Team is investigating a wreck that sent one person to the hospital.

At 4:22 p.m., officers were dispatched to Hwy 25 and Chief O.F. Love Road after receiving reports of a wreck. The SCMPD Major Accident Investigations Team was dispatched to investigate. It was determined the driver of a 1930 Ford Model A Coupe, Harvey Reid, 77, was attempting to make a left turn on to Chief O.F. Love Road and turned into the path of a Ford Clubwagon driven by Oscar Carrera, 20 .

A passenger was ejected from the vehicle. The passenger was taken to the hospital. Both drivers received no injuries, but the passenger is listed in critical condition. This investigation is ongoing.

Rumor is that Carrera was cited for no License, no Insurance, and is possibly an undocumented alien. Lots of talk about why the passenger wasn't belted, thrown from car and hurt, driver stayed in the vehicle and was unhurt. I don't know this driver, or this car so I cannot speculate as to what happened beyond this report and an even sketchier follow-on report.

Love Road is in the area where they filmed the scene in "Forrest Gump" where Forrest tells Jenny he is being shipped to Vietnam, and she rides off in a pick-up truck.

Gee, I just read five different articles on the accident and NONE of them mentioned anything about an unlicensed or illegal participant in this accident.

Rumors come from:
1. Radio rats listening to Police Band
2. Hospital RN's.

No confirmation of charges yet on County Jail site, no word if arrested or sited only.

News stories won't cover this for at least 36-48 hours post incident if at all.

So did the accident occur because the one gentleman was possibly an illegal immigrant or because the other driving the Ford pulled into his path ? I do believe if you live here it should be legally and you should speak the language. I don't though believe that if your illegal and can't speak English that you should be considered guilty in an accident.

Wrong, I know of several over the road semi truck wrecks that the drivers ( US citizen ) were driving with his log book out of time. Driving a couple hours longer than he had listed in log book, or drove 14 hours one day and 8 the next with out the Federal requirement for off time, any way they were involved in accidents, not that they were at fault, but they were convicted and sometimes served jail time BECAUSE if they were driving legally they would not have been there at that place and TIME, again if it is true about illegal, no license he should be held accountable for his actions, Bruce

That's interesting, you say or the paper said it was a 1930 Model T. It seems to me the last year Ford made Model Ts was 1927. In 1928-29-30 and 31 Model As were manufactured.

The error was probable a stupid reporter; they commonly report false information in news papers and on TV; always in a hurry to beat another reporter instead of checking facts before reporting.

I wish them the best. Been there, done that, I T-boned my 31 Roadster on a Suburban that pulled out in front of me. Thrown out of the car and got hurt bad. And I was merely in my early 50's, I cant imagine having that happen in my 70's. My prayers are for them.

That couple are in our Model A club. The gentleman's name is Harvey Hood and his wife Jean. They were both injured severely. Harvey had a plate put in his jaw this morning and Jean is still in intensive care in critical condition. They both suffered broken ribs and other injuries. They are both receptive to prayers!

Wasn't that a '43 Ford Club Wagon that hit the '30 T coupe? I have a post war 1931 Model T Coupe in the barn. My favorite possession is my pre war '71 Edsel Skyliner.

The very reason that I will put seat belts in my A .Henry be damned. It just isn't safe to drive on today's roads without some kind of safety measure and seat belts are the least you can do.I can always tuck them down in the seat to hide them if I want to show it.
