"And the little Ford rambled right along..."
( okay, that's actually a Model T - inspired song... but it's the thought that counts ! )
Got my '28 going again today, about 2-1/2 months after blowing a head-gasket. I put the head back on last Monday, and as I was torquing the nuts down, studs # 7 and 8 began to pull out of the block on the third pass ( taking things to 45 ft# ). These days I only seem to get about one day in the week to play with cars, so this little project seems to have dragged on forever. I decided to try drilling / tapping / helicoil with the head in-place. Took me about four hours to do two holes... When I finished installing the studs & nuts, they snugged-up to 45# very nicely, and I went on to finish installing the radiator hoses and filling the cooling system. Fired it up and let everything get good and warm, then took all the nuts to 50#. After supper, I decided to take the old Flivver for a ride... put about 50 miles on her. Seems to have a little more power on hills ( no longer have to shift down into 2nd half-way up ), and for the first time since I've owned the car, I don't have coolant blowing-out the overflow on hard pulls / fast running. It's good to have the old jalopy back on the road... I missed her ! |

Congratulations! It's always good when a project comes together and works. Enjoy the ride!!
