Longest doors???
Am trying to piece together a "phantom" (never made) body style out of discarded model A parts and am wondering which model A body style had the longest doors? 28-9 or 30-1 doesn't matter.
Thanks |

Re: Longest doors???
Well, since you are speaking of a phantom, it would probably be the 155C Wagon, or the 255C Delivery, which both shared the same door. They both were somewhere in the 48¼" range if my memory is correct.
Ohh, ...and "nice" username. . |

Re: Longest doors???
Longest as in height or width? Cause I thought a-400 doors were the widest.

While it may be your nickname, I sure there are places where some folks don't say it outloud. In your defense, maybe you are never in those places. As for Victoria/400A doors, decent ones will generally set you back in the $800-$1000 range for the pair due to their rarity. Then you need to use a slant-windshield cowl section which are usually a little more expensive over a straight-windshield cowl section. While I am not condoning you building a hot rod or cutting up a car (since Ryan wants us to use this forum only for discussing Restoration, --not Rods), the easiest & cheapest method would likely be to find a pair of 'pre-May 1931' Fordor Sedan doors off of a Briggs and graft the two together, and then use sheetmetal to make the infrastructure where the wood originally was. More of those bodies around than will ever be restored. . |

Re: Longest doors???
I think you should try to find some doors to make out of two like brent said. Since it is a phatom, you can make them how you like. Leave the a-400 doors alone and make two long doors out of some briggs doors.

Re: Longest doors???
If I had 10 A400 doors, I wouldn't use one where it didn't belong. I am building this out of parts that were headed to the scrapyard after a nice trip thru the crusher. The doors I use will be junk also. Although, with the attitude I see about a name, makes me almost want to whack up restored A's.
Brent, As far as places I have or haven't been, not important, what I am is what's important to me. You don't see me passing judgement down. Thank you Steve. I appreciate the info, and I'll look for some junk doors. Last edited by Junknshit; 12-28-2011 at 11:37 AM. |

And you choose a username that contains a word that most readers/posters here do not say/use publicly here. The real world is all about making judgment calls ....and you are correct that most won't see you passing judgment. I do however think your comment regarding how you would almost like to whack up restored Model A's says a lot. . |

Re: Longest doors???
WOW......................All I did Brent is ask a question about Model A doors.
It is plain to see that you have a problem with me. To put an end to this I will not post on this topic any more. |
