Default Early Ford Cutaway Chassis YouTube Videos Global Rollcall and More Info

Here are 2 YouTube videos of Ford cutaway chassis in England.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=U83sbWGC_M0
www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILvdM-5WJsU

This thread is also a Global Rollcall for surviving Early Ford Cutaway Chassis and a quest for more information about Cutaway Chassis. Cutaway Chassis are featured in the book The Ford Shows by Lorin Sorensen.
The Cutaway Chassis were made by the apprentices and were used in exhibitions, shows and displays and for illustrations in manuals. They were then lent or given to colleges and trade schools. They were often painted bright or unusual colors and had many parts chrome plated. Some had grilles, some had body parts and cutaway bodies. Some were powered chassis with the starter wound to industrial electricity and could be operated by pressing a button and the engine, drivetrain and wheels turned. These chassis had all the wheels off the ground and sat on stands made out of cut down back axle casings.

We will now attempt a Global Rollcall of surviving Cutaway Chassis.

There are approximately 5 Model Y and 2 Prefect Cutaway Chassis in the UK.

There was a Model A cutaway chassis in the Hartogh collection sale in Holland.

There is a 1939 Cutaway Chassis in the Motala Motor Museum in Sweden.

There is a 1934 Cutaway Chassis which originally came from USA in the Birdwood Mill Museum in Australia.

There is the well known 1940 chassis in USA.

Do you know of any more or have any other information?

Although not a chassis or a Flathead, for that matter, I have a cutaway Ford Y-Block motor I am restoring.

Here is a picture of the Model A chassis from the Hartogh sale in Holland. I don't know where it is now. Do you?

I recall there is one on Whidbey Island in Washington State. This may be the aforementioned '40, as I know very little about it. Maybe a fellow Washingtonian can provide more info.

When I went to the University of Minnesota in the early sixties, there was a cutaway of a V8-60 engine right out in the hallway of the Mechanical Engineering Building. It was well done with a lot of nicely painted and chromed parts. Even then, all of the easily removable chrome items had been pilfered.

I know it rains a lot in UK, (been there, done that) but rolling the Y Block thru the mud? Seems a shame for such a beautiful work of art. IMHO. JPL

The July/August 2015 issue of the V8 Times has an interesting story and beautiful pictures of the 1940 Ford factory cutaway. This was written by Rich Grieve. Possibly someone knows how to post this article and pictures for all to view.

This is the 1934 cutaway chassis in Birdwood Mill Museum Australia. It came from America, so it is LHD. It is a powered chassis. It sits on stands and has clear plastic sheets over the engine.

That was the Chassis sold at Barrett Jackson. It was owned by Rick Rennebohm of Oak Harbor.

Do any Cutaway Chassis with Cutaway Bodies survive?

There's a circa 1926 Model T cutaway chassis in the Henry Ford Museum.

Thanks Randy.
Here is a 32 chassis in Ford's Woodward Avenue showroom. This chassis was mounted on a rotisserie and turned over.
