Default 28-29 Roadster Windshield Posts

Were any of the 28-29 roadster windshield posts made to fold down like the 30-31 Deluxe? Thanks in advance.

Yes, In the "Old Days", you could get 28-29 Fold down W/S Posts. These were very rare and I think they were an accessory, may be available thru the dealer.

I think some of the Parts Suppliers sell a repo of these.

I have a set, that I bought new, back in the late 60s. They are repoductions. I will post a photo of them tomorrow. I don't know if anyone is making them nowdays or not. They are very heavy castings (brass ?).

But were they ever offered by the factory? All I have ever seen were aftermarket made.

I have seen a set on a 29 here in SE Texas that was first restored about 1960.

As to the questions about if offered today, I have a set of bronze castings that I got from Bert's a couple years ago. These come and go for availability depending on demand to justify a production run. The ones I got were a 2" chop, don't recall if they make them in stock height, have to call them.

Also there's a guy in California who makes them in Aluminum, also the 2" chop. If interested go to HAMB and in the search box query "folding windshield post (or stanchion)" and it should be one of the first few listings.

Sometimes you can get standard height stanchions from him also. I bought a stock height set from him last year or year before. His name is Williams I think.

I have a stock height (old aftermarket hot rod) set, and you want to be careful when you fold them down with a screw on cap or you will break the windshield. The early 30 twist on gas cap tank is the way to go.

This is my pair of folding '28-'29 phaeton, roadster W/S posts. They fit just like the originals. They are very well made. You don't have to worry about breaking the glass on the radiator cap, as they have a stop built in. They are the stock height. They also take the side curtains and the wind-wings. I bought these new, in the late 60s, I think, but I don't remember, from whom.
FORD never offered them. I think that these are reproductions of an aftermarket accessory, offered in the 30s.

I had a pair like that looked like that and they didn't fit a Model A. I don't know what they fit. Do yours fit?

Yes, mine fit my "A" Model ('29 Roadster) very well. I had them on for several years. I don't remember why I took them off.

This was discussed a while ago on here and from memory, Ford Canada offered folding windshield posts on the sport phaeton and sport roadster that they had. These were unique to Canada body styles.

The folding posts supplied on the Canadian sport roadster were nickel plated.Just one of many extras this model had.
There was no sport phaeton in '29 [Canada] but Ford Australia fitted out their own sport roadster & phaeton ;these had a few less extras but were painted in striking colour schemes not seen in Nth America.

The Sport Roadster built in Canada was for export only and not even included in the Canadian parts books as if it never existed.

The Australian sport roadster and phaeton did not have folding windshield post, but they were nickel plated. They also han wind wings fitted. Some of the colour combos included coloured wheels and fenders.

I have never seen or read anything that suggests they were for export only. When you think about parts the only thing that was different from standard parts were the screen and posts. I presume that they were listed somewhere. I have a Canadian 1931 parts book, that is pretty specific about different parts for various countries, but as you say, no mention of Sports Roadster. There was one for sale in Canada on ebay a while ago. Looked quite a complete car.

Back in the early 1970's I had a VERY ROUGH 28-29 Roadster with bronze/brass folding windshield posts. I think they were the sole reason it sold for $400.00.
