Default 59a best distributor

Hi all,
I am currently rebuilding a 59A engine to put in my 38 Pickup project. Just wondering what distributor to run. It will be a driver so not stuck on originality.
The diagrams on various sites and books can be confusing as some 59 A engines are shown with the "crab" style -2 bolt, others with a 3 bolt "helmet style".
I have both (need rebuilding) and I can change timing covers to suit.
I guess I like the idea of the crab as you can have a remote coil in a cooler location. This is a USA built engine.
Do the gurus have a preference?

I run original spec distributor on my 35 Phaeton, and a Mallory breaker- less on my 34, to date, no problems with either. Although I do carry a rebuilt helmet style in my 34 in case the Mallory decides to quit!
thanks Dave

The 42-44 is sometimes called the crab style and then there is the 46-48. Believe the crab cap fits both units. I prefer the carb cap, but that is just based on looks. (diagrams from VanPelt)

Dave, The 59 series originally used the V cap on the crab distributor. This is a great choice but for the usual hassle of fitment of the wires to the cap. The crab cap is also a great choice but for the poor waterproofing. The helmet being original to the '38, that would be a great choice but for the location of the coil, but then, remember that Skip Haney has your back on coils. It boils down to personal choice, as all three are as good as ever fired a flathead. ...One thing about the helmet: Be sure to use the 11A advance plate for your 59A.

I've been running a crab cap without a problem for about 20 years now. Been through some pretty heavy rain storms.

If you run the crab it's best (IMO) to use a gasket between cap and body and rubber boots at all plug wires to cap connections.
