Does anyone make a timing indicator with a pointer that would work with the Stipe undersized pulley, which has timing marks on the pulley?

I would say it should work, but like I said I haven't done it on a B but really like having an accurate way to adjust the timing, using a timing light.

Thanks John. I would like to give it a go.

I received my Timing Indicator today. What a beautiful piece of work. I'll be putting it on my engine tomorrow. Thanks Dave!

Just think, Carl, If everyone had an indicator & used a trusty old timing light, we then wouldn't have those LOOOOOOOOOOOONG threads on "HOW DO I SET MY TIMING" (SNIFF!) Bill W.

I bought one of these indicators, like everyone has said its a nice piece, however I have a model b motor and timing cover. When I use this indicator and use a timing light it shows the advance at idle off the scale, at about 40 degrees, this of course can't be right.

I don't think it will work with a model b, anyone else have a similar experience?

Does this work as a "check" after you have set the timing? I might be dumb but I just can't see how you can use a timing light on an A.

It is pretty much a trial-and-error method in that you cannot adjust the timing while the engine is running. The timing light will enable you to verify exactly where the timing is, but in order to adjust it you must turn the engine off and adjust the distributor cam and the re-start to see where the mark is. You are accustomed to being able to turn the distributor to adjust the timing while the engine is running. You can't do it that way on an A. But you can duplicate the exact timing over and over once you find where your car runs best.

Tiny, did you mean because of the plug connector straps? If so, you have to use the '32 type cap with regular wires.
I'm running RESISTOR wires, just because one dude said it won't run with them! HAA! & maybe my ooooold Transistor radio will sound better. We'll find out tomorrow! Bill W.

Bill, it wouldn't make any difference. The distributor won't turn and you have to remove the cap with the motor off to adjust the timing.

Yep, I know, James, did that for years on Minerva, sure was nice, later, when I bought a Mallory single point distributor. That distributor made it like a different car. Bill W.

Sorry should have stated that I was using a FSI electronic distributor. Still, the question is with an original distributor or the FSI distributor I don't think the model A indicator with a model B motor works. Seems like it should but the scale is off. What am I missing?

After all this I think I answered my own question. It won't work as shipped for a model B. It would have to be mounted (facing the motor) further counter clock wise about 20 or more degrees to have the indicator scale work in a range for a model B.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll see if I make something work, unless someone has already come up with something.

Why would this be helpful? Give me a test light and I can get it just as perfect. I'm not sure I see the advantage. You time the motor as normal then hook up your test light to see if you did good? Sounds like a lot of extra work to me.

Pulling down the advance with the test light hooked up to check always works for me. If the test light lights when it hits the 1st or 2nd notch in the lever its timed. No closing up starting, stopping, fiddling starting again, burning my arm on the manifold needed.

Bill, regular plug wires? The fun is in bumping those bronze straps, while the motor is running, with the back of your hand!!! It works better than a stiff cup of Joe to get you moving in the morning!

Did you take into account that with the B cover the pin drops in the dimple at 19° BTDC
not TDC like the A?
