GL-5 vs GL-4 Gear Oil
Was wondering if 140 wt GL-5 type gear oil is safe to use in the Model A steering gear with bronze bushings ?
The gear oil article below says that it can damage "yellow metals" i e bronze bushings ,gears etc. Is it safe for transmissions and differentials ? Gl-4 type gear oil, which is safe for bronze bushings, is getting hard to find these days. Thanks for any input. http://www.widman.biz/uploads/Transaxle_oil.pdf |

Another option mentioned (I have obtained, but not installed yet) is Pennrite Steering Box Lube, comes in a 1/2 litre bottle, about $16 + shipping. Available from
Restoration Supply Co. 15182B Highland Valley Rd Escondido, CA 92025 800-306-7008 www.RestorationStuff.com VERY "thick", if your strg box leaks this should greatly help. Do a search hear on the barn : Steering lube-Penrite 1200W Paul in CT |

We are using the ShockProof Heavy with very good results, providing very good protection and clings well to the upper bearing which tends to operate above the fluid level. Regards, Dave Red Line Oil http://www.redlineoil.com/product.aspx?pid=44&pcid=8 |
