Question for Dan Partain on PU top
Dan, Did you ever order the Black Cotton Duck material from fabrics.com? Which one did you get, the Rhino Canvas upholstery weight, or the Crestmont Canvas that is medium weight? I wondered if medium will be stiff enough for the visor? Thanks.

Re: Question for Dan Partain on PU top
I haven't ordered the cloth for the my PU top yet, I hope to be at that point some time this summer.
I did notice on the Brattons website the other day that he is offering a headliner fabric, black cloth, Part #29400, $26.40. There are no details on the website regarding the fabric so it's probably worth a phone call to Walt for a description of his material. I haven't talked with anyone at LeBarron Bonney in many years but they may supply the correct materials with their kit now, you might give them a call. The kit I installed from them in the 70's supplied an artificial leather (naugahide) looking liner with their kit. I didn't realize back then that it was incorrect. The supplied trim pieces and welt were not correct at that time either. Hopefully they have updated their kit by now. The long-short grain outer top material I received from them back then was bomb-proof, it lasted for years and years and was in good shape when I took it off. I hope I can get that kind of quality this next time I recover my top. I just read the rest of your message. You won't be using any of the same black cloth for the visor, it uses the same material as the outer top. I suppose you might be able to use some of the black cloth as a liner 'in' the visor though Last edited by Dan Partain; 03-13-2011 at 11:51 PM. Reason: Add comment. |

Re: Question for Dan Partain on PU top
I ordered the kit from L B last fall and when I started really looking it over the other day, I noticed the kit did include a very thin black fabric that was almost sheer enough to see thru. I am going to order 2 yards of the Rhino canvas material because it is stiffer. It cost $7.98/ yd plus shipping. The vinyl long-short grain material looks good from L B, but I don't know how authentic it is, but it is fine for me.Thanks for getting back to me, I will let you know how it turns out.
Anyone else found something close that works well?

Measure what you need as I suspect you only need 1-1/2 yards. Generally fabrics can be purchased in fractional yards as needed.

Re: Question for Dan Partain on PU top
I did a little more checking on the Rhino canvas material fabric.com sells, and it is listed as 100%polyester canvas. So I think I will go with the thinner medium weight cotton duck material.
