How about a NOS Model B block (the Russian one imported by Ford Parts Obsolete in the sixties) when I was just looking for a rebuildable block at a swap meet?

Re: Your best NOS Model A/AA Find?
Set of '31 splash aprons, late '31 gas tank, early '28 radiator shroud, '30-'31 A Pickup rad. shell.
I used to deal in NOS parts before the days of internet. I got paid to travel with a prior job and in my travels I'd hit up every Ford, Lincoln & Mercury dealer I ran across if it looked like they had been there for many years. Most of the NOS I found was non Model A, but as the saying goes "Even a blind pig finds an acorn once in a while" |

Re: Your best NOS Model A/AA Find?
One for NOS connoisseurs. Well not really, but an amusing little era NOS item that sat on a dealers shelf for a long time. Fitted on each hood catch supposedly to stop rattles, but the factory fitted rubber stops would have done it anyway.
Has 'one schilling & sixpence' on it. which is old NZ money system equivalent then to about US 25c |

Re: Your best NOS Model A/AA Find?
The boss found a Ford Dealership that closed in 1933 about 40 years ago. Just think if it was 10 years ago with an eBay account. Wish I still had the NOS 26-27 T accessory windwing that were still in the Ford box. Back to reality, when I was restoring a 1928 wire wheeled AA rack body with full fenders, I bought NOS rear fenders from Charlie Butler. He had bought them sight unseen as Roadster fenders...bit too large, but perfect for me. I went on to find NOS running boards and aprons, and many other parts.

Re: Your best NOS Model A/AA Find?
A pair of mint keys with the original ring hanging on a nail in a garage I was getting paid to prepare for demolition.
From saturday trash piles at Hershey-- kingpins dist shafts u-joint kits pistons diff bearings ---and more set of spring covers for $1 at yard sale original fan blade --was cheap because it was "different"--the late style --I got it for 12$ Any NOS part that I can buy for less than a repro. In non A --I just found a nos LF door latch for my 36 --after many years of looking. |

Re: Your best NOS Model A/AA Find?
To date, one of three things:
All being NOS, a front wishbone/radius rod, a set of four early, forged hood latches and while the last not being Ford (Neihoff and Echlin), a very large quantity of powerhouse brushes, both 5 and 3 brush.

Re: Your best NOS Model A/AA Find?
When I first started to restore my 1929 Roadster in the early 60s, I went to a Swap-Meet and bought:
1 pair NOS shiney-black welled fenders, 1 NOS shiney-black L/R fender, 1 NOS shiney-black R/H running board apron and 2 used sets of side mount hardware. For all of this, I had to shell out $90.00 ! MIKE Last edited by FL&WVMIKE; 03-13-2011 at 11:20 AM. |

Pair of '31 front fenders, late '30-31 long runningboard aprons, '30-31 pickup radiator shell, '30 pickup runningboard aprons, and front spring. Other NOS were the more common chassis parts.

Re: Your best NOS Model A/AA Find?
Pair of rear fenders for my '29 pickup in 1970...$100 each. The guy had already painted them black and did a beautiful job. I just had to bolt them on.
I've also found some rare NOS and used '32 stuff real cheap...NOS wiring harness, NOS super early hood hook, ash tray, air cleaner, garnish mouldings, guages, etc. that I maybe spent a total of $10 to acquire. |

Re: Your best NOS Model A/AA Find?
I purchased a Victoria Leatherback about four years ago. The seller would not budge on his very fair price ... but he did agree to let everything that fit only '30-'31 go. I went away with a trailer full. He had only a '29 Roadster left.
It was a win-win. For me it was a WIN. An extra front fender in the pile had this stencil inside. The price I got for that "extra" fender paid for the gas to drive 2,000 miles pulling a trailer, dindin for two, and 25% of the $$$ of the deal. (I know. Once-in-a-lifetime. Lightening doesn't strike twice in the same place. And I better just take up golf). |

Re: Your best NOS Model A/AA Find?
I just bought this Servis Recorder off the e-bay with the buy-it-now option. It is in pristine unused condition, just some shelf wear. If you don't recognize it, take a look at the A and AA truck accessories. It is pictured there and was used to keep an eye on driver's activities. A stylis attached to a pendulum scratched a line on a paper/wax "record" while the truck was moving. I love the simlicity of this gadget, it is just so Model A !dd 014.jpg

Re: Your best NOS Model A/AA Find?
I think that my most memorable NOS find was a box of NOS lower radiator hoses (enough for 8 cars) at Hershey from a guy that sells brass lights, all for $20.00. I always seem to find NOS 28/29 hubcaps, rubber parts, and small trinkets. Over time, I've picked up 5 NOS 8.5" chocolate door straps.I did buy a gorgeous set of '28/29 NOS hubcaps on Ebay a while back for about $65.00. they were advertised as '70's repops. NOS sheetmetal is still out there. I saw several pieces at Hershey last year. It is still out there. You just have to dig a little harder these days.

I went to a dealer locally and got to dig around in thier attic. I found 2 nos front crossmembers, a nos metal essex coil, several radius rod bolts and about a truck load of 50-60 model stuff. All this for 500 bucks last year. Sold some of the stuff at hershey and more than paid for all of it.

Re: Your best NOS Model A/AA Find?
Back in the 1960's a friend got access to the attic of Danbury Ford, looking for 1932 Ford parts. We stood on NOS 33-34 front fenders, and never gave it a thought, nobody wanted that "New Stuff" back then.

Re: Your best NOS Model A/AA Find?
NOS hidden emergency money. There was a 1923 series $5 Silver Certificate inside a folded page of 1931 newspaper tucked into the rear seat springs of my 160B. Unfortunately it had small rust stains from the springs, but otherwise new, crisp, and vibrant ink color. Not being versed in money laundering techniques, I gave it to a friend. $5 was a lot of cash in 1931.

I did a 36 Ford 4dr for a customer a few years ago. Ordered Fender Welt from Job Lot. I ordered a certain number of feet. What I got was individual NOS fender welt in original boxes still wrapped up in paper with a Ford parts tag on most of the rolls. Still have some of them.

Re: Your best NOS Model A/AA Find?
I bought a 31 Tudor years ago from a man who had bought it in 1941.He had collected quite a few parts over the years to maintain it.When I picked it up he had crammed every part inside the car.I couldn't even reach in to turn the steering wheel.I got an NOS steering shaft and worm,an NOS sector,NOS bearings and races, and an NOS sector housing. The last three parts were tagged and boxed, but for some reason I got the idea the sector housing was maybe a rebushed exchange item.I put everything together in a steering box for my pickup.I have never, ever, been able to adjust that box properly.I thought that with original parts it would be a breeze. What I feel is the parts had been tossed around over the years and damaged. The steering shaft had a half dozen mailing tags on it,all from one Ford dealer to another. Both ends were coated in a ball of wax with burlap around them,so the ends were not damaged, but I am thinking the thing had been thrown around, stepped on,dropped, used to chip ice outside the dealers door or something. The box does work fine, and nobody that drives the car notices anything, but with all the new parts I just felt I should be able to get a tighter adjustment. In the same car I got lots of Ford marked brake clevis's,a new horn rod(bent)some new headlight sockets(the best find to me)and under the rear seat a Sears Roebuck nickel plated 7 shot pistol. Then years later I had the spare off the back, and thought I would clean the junk out of the spare tire carrier.I found another pistol in there, wrapped in oiled cloth in a leather pouch. It has a little rust damage but not much,it is perfectly serviceable and shoots fine.My father commented it must have been one of yer grandfathers cars, look in the doors for some more guns.He used to slit the door panels and slip his guns in the doors while at work or in a store.

Re: Your best NOS Model A/AA Find?
Quote:
It's not as bad as you think! The diagonal outer layer was always a bit stiff and not great for folding. Ford planned a '29 Roadster top out of that (including assigned part numbers) but never implemented it for reasons I believe obvious. Additionally you will find your rear curtain has a layer between the diagonal grain pyroxyline and the Mock Twist lining. That inside layer is "buckram" which is impregnated burlap. Buckram is stiff by design and makes that rear curtain almost more like a panel. Also note the the buckram inner layer stops short of where the other layers tack to the rear bow. This is so the curtain assembly can be folded up inside the car and fastened to the straps overhead.

Re: Your best NOS Model A/AA Find?
My best find just sort-a repeated itself if you can beleive it?!? A couple of months a go I found an NOS Boyce Ford Model-A MotoMeter on eBay.
It had a buy it now for $49.95, so I grabbed it of course. Well, the same auctioner had another Boyce Ford Model-A MotoMeter on eBay with a buy it now for $39.95, so I scarfed it up too! It is not NOS like the first one. But is in excellent shape just not as shinny. Bob-A |
