What gauge wire for 1940 6 volt dome light to switch
What gauge wire would you use for a 6 volt dome light to switch in a 40?
Thanks Tom. |

Re: What gauge wire for 1940 6 volt dome light to switch
The link below may help.
I used 14 gauge for the dome light on my 40 Ford when it was 6V so that if I converted to 12V it would also work. I also used an LED dome light bulb as they are much brighter and cooler. Won't melt the lense. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...ool-me.269914/ Car is now 12V and I made the 12 V bulbs shown but, you can now buy them. Last edited by 19Fordy; 09-29-2021 at 07:53 AM. |

Re: What gauge wire for 1940 6 volt dome light to switch
Kube: You MADE 6V LED bulbs? Where do your abilities end???? I have tried everywhere to find an LED 6V 1073 brake light bulb. It is a brake light bulb for 1935 Ford. Single contact. Interlight first told me they had them and then told me they didn't, nor could they give me a lead on where one might be found. Do you, or anyone who may be reading this, know if such an LED bulb exists, and where one might be obtained? Thanks. Lawson

The "ABC3857" LED bulb below will work on 6v. It will fit in a "1073" type socket, which is called a "BA15S" base. This means that the two little pins (bayonets) are STRAIGHT ACROSS from each other. Click on the link BELOW! https://www.steinertractor.com/ABC38...All%20Products . |

While I await the shipment I will see if I can follow your excellent directions on posting pictures here. For some strange reason I have a mental block on that subject. Oh, for what it is worth, I have completely recovered from the Attorney affliction. LOL Lawson

A person can use larger gauge than 16 AWG for 6-volt systems but the 16 would be the common size for that circuit. Higher current flow circuits like the generator and the buss power would use the larger gauges.
