Re: Aftermarket 2 blade aluminum fan
Folks back in the day developed a patch repair method for the old fans that was the common way to repair them. The Restorer series of books has the illustration of the repair patch that was welded on to them, Doublers are the only way to repair a welded sheet metal rotor like that with all the stresses involved with function. Welding alone will not add any strength back but the doubler would. There were no aluminum replacement fans back when I was young so folks did what they had to to keep them going.
My old hand me down 1951 Mercury slung a fan blade when my Pop was driving around on the farm. The dent it left in the hood was a b!tch to repair after I got it. |

Re: Aftermarket 2 blade aluminum fan
About 25 years ago there was an article written by an engineer possibly working for Boeing about fixing the fan by welding on a patch. I got four of them fixed by someone in Texas. The cost was high. I cannot remember the writers name. I have two of them on cars before the aluminum ones came out. We moved to Tennessee and I put the other two in a safe place. Where that safe place is, I am not sure. Look in the old Model A magazines in that time frame for the write-up. It may be easy to find if you have the digital copies. The write up covered the problems and the fix carefully. When you find it, Please let us know.

Re: Aftermarket 2 blade aluminum fan
Ford had a recall late 70’s for fan blades leaving the scene of the accident, well I had a mercury that a blade disappeared with no evidence of it leaving. Ford dealer order one for me, it wasn’t covered on the recall but after 1/2 year later ford sent me a check !
