Default Does this sound suspicious??

I put a want ad on the V8 club website looking for a specific part and received an email saying he was ready to dispose of a lot of parts and would I send to him what I was looking and give him my phone number??? I thought I already said what I wanted.

I'd ignore it but, if you decide to answer , tell them to send you a picture of the part he has but don't give him any further explanation. I bet they'll just move on........Mark

I had similar thing happen to me on same site. The folks that monitor that site also said beware. The site is not just club members and open to the public & therefore not so honorable people may be lurking.

No matter how specific you are in your ad, the morons will stand in line to test your patience.

I did respond by saying that I already said what I wanted and asked for a pic. Haven't heard back yet. Another marker to me was when he signed his name and added USA!

I just got a reply to an ad I'd posted there for "wanted to buy a 36 roadster". Man, the guy sent me pictures of a beautiful '36 for only $21k. Too bad it was a fully restored '36 Packard.
That, and the fact the person's English skills were very lacking raised many red flags.

These scams do work occasionally. I knew one fellow that had his car sold on eBay. The $1000 deposit was made promptly after the auction had closed.
One problem? Well, he didn't have his car for sale and the eBay / Paypal account wasn't his.
The photos used in the ad were taken at a local car show.

At my age I should dispose of a lot of my extra parts so that expression doesn't set off an alarm. Asking if you have and other things you need doesn't set off an alarm. Search for his name in the archives. Ask him what screen name he uses so you can check out a few of his posts. Ask for pictures with something added like a quarter in the photo. If he passes the tests he might be OK but as always still be careful. By the way, what are you looking for? If it is a muffler bearing and he claims to have an NOS one, RUN FAST.

What I find suspicious is that nothing comes up here or on HAMB when you search on his name. Ask him what his screen name is.
