I'm sorry if I missed something but WHY would someone ever position a car that way?

If that had been a Model A I would think that they were draining the oil out of the rear main. Reminds me of the old days when guys made jack stands out of rear axle housings.

People were once pretty cavalier about yanking front ens up in the air, and no one would have whined about a couple of nicks in bumper back then. Bumpers were for bumping!
Go get your Service Bulletins and read the entry about special rear main tubes for BB grain trucks...

When you think about it a guy pulling on a spanner under the car could have tipped it off at some point. Probably happened.

Oddly enough I would never feel safe laying under a car supported by anything sold by Habor Freight.

But if a Harbor Freight stand breaks, they'll replace it for free. There's probably a disclaimer sticker that says, "WE DON'T PAY MEDICAL BILLS!"
Seriously, though, I've had sooo much fun reading this thread that I don't think I need to go pee anymore! Bill W.

Do you think it would be safer with two more in the back?

I've been able to travel in some parts of Africa and when the mechanic shows up in a taxi and his kid jumps out of the trunk with a pillow sack full of tools you know that, that moment will be the safest thing they do.

What kind of car is it, maybe a Whippet? It has open drive shaft and drum headlights. It's hard to see much of the rad shell.

In the '60's, we raised gigantic Chrysler Imperials with a hoist, placed 4 huge, well made, identical height stands under the wheels and let the hoist down! This was done so we could use a special long fixture with protracters and a level to adjust the 2 piece drive shaft mount to specs, so as to eliminate "shuddering" on full throttle take offs.
Man! we were GOOD, never dropped one! Bill W.

My Uncle, "GUMP," carried his tools in a TOE SACK, poured 'em out beside the car, and everything was visible & handy!***** (5 stars for GUMP) Bill W.
