Default The 32 to end all 32’s?

Just got my latest issue of Hemings, in there is advertised an original 32 five window(unrestored). With only less than 33,000 miles. Not to mention it comes with a pile of NOS parts( advertised).
I would like to see more of this car, no I would never be able to do much more than drool over it. But I’d still like to get a closer look.

I know the heir who inherited a collection of 32-36 Fords, in the collection is a 27k mile 32 tudor, V8 blue and black, perfect interior and everything. Every time I see him I remind him that he must not let anybody do anything to this car and if he EVER decides to sell it I will refinance my house. This car like many his uncle had was purchased from the original owner. Fortunately, he asks me when he has questions about any of the cars as I was around them for 41 years. I love looking at unrestored cars like this.

It says it’s a Model B,
I don’t follow 32 prices that close, so what is the difference price wise between model B and V8?

With two identical examples (model and condition wise), the V8 will generally command more even if the engine in it isn't an original '32. With super original '32s with original paint and upholstery, there are no rules of thumb. The same goes for 995+ point restorations.

There''s a 5W on the HAMB now in CT, asking 50K, not "original", says restored in 2004. FWIW

For '32 fans interested. Though not totally original but close I enjoyed an article on a Model B in Hemmings Classic Car magazine to which I am a subscriber. January 2020, Volume 16 issue 4, #184, beginning on page 30. Here's a man I respect and admire for keeping his word.

Timely subject.
I recently checked out a ‘32,5 window Coupe that I’d acquired last year. Been under the weather, so it sat.

I found that the old timer had a “restoration done on it. What does to restore mean anyway ?

Well, it is a true Model 18 with rebuilt 21 stud. Mohair interior new blk paint, etc.
Mods for driving include dual exhaust; tube shocks and hydraulic brakes (40).

Great except for RUMBLE SEAT...bummer. Even tho not used !

Nice blk paint w/ red pinstripping. Apparently, when apart, the decision was made to chrome what they liked.. And lots of chrome. ALL Window trim !
All glass perfect. Mohair really nice. No patch panels, no rust !!

Today, I took off the left rear drum have look see. Everything like brand new !

Here’s the RUB...I’m a ‘32four cylinder guy !

So, I go to NADA for ball park $.
NADA: $ when new $420..lol; Average $44,000; High $58,500..

Now I’d like to ask you what are the odds of finding a ‘32 4 Cyl trade ?
Not restored, but not junk either ??

Take a look at this website; www.spudsgarage.com. A really nice 32 fordor four cylinder car. Looks like a very nice restoration with some upgrades done to the motor.

About 45 to 50 years ago Bill Honda of California Metal Shaping had a really nice very early 32 roadster with an original V-8. Less than 40K miles. He was always getting offers through the roof from very rich folks. I often wonder what happened to that car.

You know I’ve heard some people say that a 32 Ford is just a glorified model A. But how can you say that with so many changes and refinements. The frame alone is light years ahead of a model A.

Hey TJ,
Thanks much. I visited that site and will look , in more detail next visit.

I could put a four banger built B in my ‘32 coupe. But , I dislike taking this nice 5 window model 18 apart. I figured that a mutually beneficial ‘trade’ type action is possible. I know it isn’t easy to locate the right person, but worth a try. If it comes to ...bottom line , I’ll make an engine swap. Nice coupes are only original once.
Wonder how much involved to switch V8 to a B ?? Anyone here ever make this engine change ?

I’d like to stay with a coupe, as opposed to sedan , etc.

That's 'cuz Edsel had "vision". If it had been left entirely up to Henry, there would still have been brand new 1932 Model Ts! Even the Model A was Edsel's brainchild. DD

That's a pretty straightforward procedure to end-up going on down the road. Now, to make it look like the factory did it....that's a whole different story. Expensive, too! DD

Hey DD,

I’m not much for factory, fancy or glitz. Matter of fact, what I have in mind is to install a D engine in this coupe, if it comes to making change on my ‘32.
Yup, lot of bling and plenty of horses.
Just might make the sting of removing stock 21stud worth the cost of originality.

I’ll give the swap idea a good chance tho , before proceeding.

Would still like to talk with ANYONE who has done this engine swap...I.e.- 4 Cyl in, to replace V8 in a ‘32 !
