Zenith vs Zenith-2 Carb. Which is best?
I need to do something with the current carb on my coupe. The car will not keep running when it comes up to a stop sign. So the present carb likely needs some work. Or I have two additional carbs. One is just a Zenith and the other is a Zenith-2. My thought at this time is to rebuild one of the extra carbs I have to replace the current one on the coupe and also to just have an extra carb in case it is needed.
So the question is-If I rebuild one of the extra carbs I have, which one would give me the best results? The Zenith or the Zenith-2. Would appreciate anyones ideas because I know nothing about which type of carb would work the best. Thanks for any ideas.

Zenith, holley, Ford; no number, 2 and 3

Re: Zenith vs Zenith-2 Carb. Which is best?
Ford used 2 carburetor manufacturers, Zenith and Holley. The early (1927) Zeniths were blank on the top & marked "Zenith" on the base. The 1928 Zeniths were marked "Z" on the top and Zenith on the bottom. Thereafter all Zeniths were marked Z on the top & Zenith-1 on the bottom.
The early Holleys (1928) were marked with an "H" or plain on the top & either "H" or blank on the bottom. Beginning in Jan '29, Holley marked all the bottoms with Zenith-2 & the tops continued to be blank. The markings were just to identify the manufacturer for Ford. Zenith-1 and Zenith-2 are internally & operationally the same. The earlier carbs have some differences that need attention if you use them...main one is the earlier carbs ('27-'28) have an integral/built in secondary well and idle jet length and all the rest have a separate secondary well & shorter idle jet.

Re: Zenith vs Zenith-2 Carb. Which is best?
Thanks guys for the information. Especially Jim for the detailed description of the types of carbs. So it looks like either of the carbs would do the job after getting a rebuild.
