Winfield Tool Works in Port Jefferson NY is no longer in business. I reached someone at 631 928 3316 number who is a family member and was told they are no longer in business.

Vintage Precision is in California.......I just bought one of their hub pullers, the absolute best purchase I have ever made.....top quality puller and better IMO than the KR Wilson. IT doesn't push directly on the axle end like the KR Wilson.

Hi Everyone, This is not what was asked here, but please recall that VanPeltSales.com rents a tool for removing rear hubs in case a person didn't want to buy one.

Operating Instructions

Vintage Precision offers an enhanced reproduction of the original K.R. Wilson ABV-156 rear hub puller.
Do you need to remove a tight hub from a 1928-48 Ford car or truck?

Are you worried about ruining the axles?

This heavy-duty tool saves you from the stress of pulling the rear hubs free from their axles.

Sorry i got the two mixed up. Vintage Precision is the one in Benecia and is the supplier of the hub puller. I borrowed a friend's some time ago and it works great. Worth every penny.

Thanks for the referral but we no longer have any of the drum pullers available.....for rent or otherwise. We had two of them but not anymore. One broke beyond repair after years of use. The other one sprouted legs and ran away in California.....the renter never returned our calls.....or the tool. Winfield went out of business so we could not order parts or more of the tools.

I second that, I bought one of these and have used it often, very high quality product.

My question is how can that puller work if it doesn't push on the end of the axle? My real KRW puller has a nut that screws onto the end of the axle to push against. Is that what was being talked about?

Mitchell Manufacturing makes one as well. It works well, and on both styles of hubs, indented ring or protruding ring.

For those of you who may be interested, THIS link (BELOW) should work!

https://mitchelloverdrives.com/mitchell-hub-puller/

This looks like the "Mitchell" hub puller.

I've watched these things on eBay for years now, and they just seem so "dinky". I have the "Winfield" puller, and it's a beast! I just can't imagine this Mitchell unit getting down and dirty with a hub that is TIGHT on the axle as they are SUPPOSED to be! The Winfields can still be found used on eBay and in the "Swap Meet" occasionally. DD

Thanks for fixing the link.

I’ve used this for 15 years, in the garage and on the side of the road. It’s worked perfectly every time. With these type of pullers, it’s the impact of the hammer blow on the puller that does the job, The nut on the end just applies pressure that helps persuade it to move.

Re-read my post....."It doesn't "directly" push on the end of the axle." It has a female threaded winged cap that threads on to the axle and the bolt pushes on the cap, not the end of the axle so NO chance what so ever of any mushrooming of the axle.....NONE!!!!! IF you look at the second photo on Petehoovie's post you will see the winged/tabbed piece I speak of in the second photo of his post its the last item on bottom half of the clam shell half!!!! You thread that on the axle, thread the push bolt all the way out flush with the threaded insert, slide the one half with the push bolt and thread insert over the winged cap on the axle into the slots for it, then slide the other half on to first half, then slide the cover over it all to hold it in place!!!!! Just a NOTE here, I spoke with the make of it when I ordered it and he told me DO NOT use more that 125ft/Lb's of torque!!!!!!

I have the Vintage Precision puller as well. It is an impressive tool that is machined and not cast. Well worth the price if you've ever fought with a stuck hub.
