Default 39 Pickup Windshield Regulator

What is the secret to removing the 2 front bolts on the w/s regulator? I've tried all kinds of sockets but unable to find anything that works due to clearance problems. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm at the point where I'm considering cutting some metal to gain clearance.

I'm assuming you are trying to remove the mounting bolts under the dash? On my pickup it was very difficult to get at the bolts. Used my 1/4" drive socket and extension and was barely able to do the job. Maybe remove the regulator knob and loosen the dash screws as well. What vehicle is this? Passenger car or commercial?

In similar cases I have used a cheap socket and ground the wall down to get the clearance. It is a trial and error process.

Gary U. It's a 39 Ford 1/2 ton. The bolts are not under the dash but in the front surrounded by obstacles.

J.Seery, thanks, I had that thought about making a shorter socket. I'm going to try it tomorrow. Raining here today. I don't see any other option other than making some cuts in the front, bending the metal to get clearance and then re-welding later.

I have made a lot of socket (and wrench) modifications over the years for specific applications. Sometimes it just like about the only way to solve a problem access issue.
