Default 40 pickup fender welt, etc.

I've taken apart 3 of these pickups and just recently learned there is supposed to be 1/8" rubber between the cab and mounting wood. Now I'm wondering where there is rubber or welt. I bought a welt kit from Drake. Was there welt behind the running boards, when you can't see the bead? I've seen remains of welt between the rear fenders and bed. I haven't seen it next to the front fenders. Please tell me where and what type of material is used between the various parts. Thanks,
Larry Young

Mine had a thin anti squeak webbing between the board and the frame. Had welting on the front fenders where they meet the cab and welting on the rear fenders at the bed. Found no welting where the board meets the fenders front or back. I did put some in there after I put the boards back on for looks and anti squeak.

TJ, that makes complete sense. I wonder why Drake sells welt for the running boards. When mounting the fenders, did you also use the rubberized washers like those sold by Drake. I haven't seen any of those in my dissassemblies either.

Is there also webbing between the inner and outer front fenders? I believe Drake sells as part of their kit.

Cartravel, there's anti squeak between the inner panel and the front fender. It's narrow and thinner but similar to frame welting. The Drake stuff is correct. You use the rubber washers on the front fenders, but I have not seen them used on the rear fenders. The rubber washer basically seals off the bolt from water and also allows for some flex of the cab and fender.
