I bought a couple for my '40 PU....I guess because they're cheap.
After a few hundred miles one started leaking A LOT!
Chucked 'em in the corner and sent a pair to Skip.
Wish I had gone the Skip route first.

I rebuild my own for my old Mercs but Skip has the right idea on his impeller. So far, nobody reproduces the 49/51 Mercury type pumps so if you don't do them yourself then Skip is the next best thing.

You can go directly to your local NAPA and get a pair of factory reconditioned pumps. i did just lat Spring. $150 for the pair and they are beauties. Of course, you will need to speak with a counter person that can loom at an actual catalog vs. some kid that figures if it isn't in the computer, they don't have it.

I have used Fryers rebuilt pumps with excellent success. He's in the Los Angeles area and can be reached at 626-335-7501. He guarantees his work and from my perspective the pumps are just as good as any on the market. He also advertises in the V-8 Times.

I bought a pair of Dennis Carpenter pumps for my '48 F-1 this summer and they work just fine. No leaks, runs cool (180* thermostats). We had some hot days this summer so I think they had a good test. Quality of casting was good. Would buy again.

As far as I know, the pumps I bought from C&G are Carpenter pumps. I've put 25,000 miles on them with no problems.

No thermostats in the winter?

I've had to mess around with thermostats in these cars to get the heaters to work.
Ended up with 180* stats.
The engine shouldn't run too cool either.

Skips pumps are not off shore stuff and if you have any problems with a pump he will be there for you. I have over 22000 mi on mine and no problems. If you look at the impeller that Skip uses it is a true turbine type impeller which doesn't create bubbles like the impellers in the off shore stuff, they are just the same impeller with an angle to the Paddles.
I understand trying to save a few bucks but we should try to support American made products if at all possible. We keep saying we want parts made in the USA so lets buy American whenever we can and send a message those Business's that go off shore that we won't buy their junk.
By the way I have never met Skip but have talked to him a few times and he is very accommodating and helpful.
Regards, Don

I have had four sets of pumps rebuilt by Skip Haney, two sets of '35's and two sets of '37-'48. These were done with original Henry part number cores with all parts made in the USA. They have provided improved cooling on my engines and are unconditionally guaranteed by Skip. I have no business ties with Skip, just a very happy repeat customer of his great workmanship and fine products.
