thar she blows fixed it #3
I figured it out the value stems were to long.I guess that why I should have used adjustable lifter.Any way I had some other values so i switch them around and found couple that fits perfect. Did a little lapping and no more blow by. Thank you everybody for your help. I know I should have used adjustable lifter but this is going be my temporary engine until I get the other engine rebuilt.

Re: thar she blows fixed it #3
I was going to ask how the valves suddenly became too long, but I see where you mentioned in the original thread that you just finished putting the engine back together, so I assume you used different valves.
Anyway, it's good it got fixed before it got installed. BTW, I see the first 5 replies in the original thread all nailed it with checking the valves or doing a leakdown check, which would have shown air going past the valves. |

Well, its easier to shorten the valves than recut the seats if the valve had been short. What were the clearances ?
If a valve grinder can't be found at any local auto shops, you friendly local airport repair facility should have one. Its easy to grind the stems. I like the original lifters as long as they are still in good shape. |
