Default where is the no.1 piston

Where is the No. 1 piston suppose to be when the marks on the crank gear and cam gear are perfectly lined up. The top of the piston is down in the cylinder about 1 inch. Getin old i guess Thanks Richard/Ca

The piston will be at TDC when the pin is inserted in the cover and matches up with the cam gear dimple. So, when the marks on both gears are matched, the piston will be down in the bore but I can't tell you how far.

No. 1 front piston will be to the top of the block, remove the 1 spark plug with flashlight look in hole you will see the piston at top dead center, make sure you are not looking at the valve and the dimple should be felt when inserting.

Gary, what you say it correct for the moment the timing pin drops into the indent on the timing gear, but I think Patrick has the right answer to Richard's question.

I think some had better reread the initial question.

Sorry, Richard, NO you ain't stupid, the Dog jist gits out of kontrol, when I DON'T censor his rattlin'
I "think" your question was, "Where is #1 piston when the marks on the cam gear & the crank gear are aligned"? Maybe I mis- read it?? Bill W.
(Richard, I re-read it. Wherever the piston is, when those marks are aligned, has NO relevance to anything and is NOT important, as far as I know???)
The Dog originally read the question to me, while I wuz unclogging the paper shredder, & I think he mis-read it to me
