That's like charging the players to play football and letting the spectators in for free.

I couldn't care less about winning a trophy that the fees pay for.

(sometimes they're for a charity or something...even still, pass the hat among the visitors not the features).

I agree! Slightly off topic but similarly, my son is crew chief for a local race team. Typical at most racetracks, in addition to registration fees, admission charges for the pits, including all crew and the driver is generally 50 to 75% more than the price of admission for spectators.

I participate in car shows not expecting to ever win. To my surprise, I have won two second place trophy's and one third place out of three places in my class. (1900 to 1945) The restored Model T won.
I have the most fun listening to peoples stories about when they owned a Model A just like mine, but it had four doors or was a convertible or it looks just like their Dad's Model A or their Grandpas. I once had a 90+ year old woman ask me if I have a rumble seat in my coupe? Mine has a trunk. She went on to tell me that she lost her virginity in a Model A rumble seat. One never knows what someone else has memories of in a Model A just like mine.
