Default Heard a Bonnie/Clyde story today

One of our hvac contractors told me that his grandparents when living in Louisiana were given a bag with $4000 and were told to hold on to it till they came back.Couple months later they heard about bonnie&clyde's death.Grandparents then moved to Texas near Beaumont and ran a Phillips 66 gas station for years.Thought it a neat piece of history.

Wonder if this is true or one of those stories that keeps "growin' with the tellin'"?? Why would Clyde and Bonnie give out this much money? What was their connection to these grandparents? They wouldn't just give money to casual acquaintences, I don't think!
Now, this was stolen money! It did not belong to Clyde and Bonnie, but rather likely represented the bank deposits of a number of poor families, maybe all that they had. So, did these grandparents do the right thing and return it? Or did they become thieves themselves to open their gas station??

These two punks -- who killed lawmen and innocent people -- would never give away that kind of money (about $70,000 in today's money). They were not Robin Hood types. See the book "Go Down Together" by Jeff Gunn. Also "Running With Bonnie and Clyde" by John Neal Phillips.

Tony M, well said! "Folklore" has a habit of making heroes out of people who in life were really just as*holes.

Where is my bag of money I want it back right now!! If I don't get it back real soon...Bonnie and I are comin' to get it and it's not going to be a pretty scene. And obtw, we will be needen' to fill the tank of our very fast flathead V8 Ford with some of that good quality Phillips 66 gas. We don't want any of that lousy corn crap you folks are using today either....C.B.
