Default What size Brake Line?

Hey guys!

I'm about to embark on rebuilding the entire brake system on my truck.Real quick I'm about to purchase some new brake line for the 52 F1, but I'm not near the truck to measure the old line. What diameter brake should I be ordering?

Thanks so much!

Jeff

Jeff.....I'd be ordering the size tubing that is currently on the truck....so that CURRENT FITTINGS can be re-used if necessary, and so that adapters will not be required to complete your plumbing. I'm gonna GUESS that you have 1/4" lines, but some of the "truck guys" will chime-in here shortly with GOOD info.

I would look for "CUNIFER", which is a copper-plated steel tubing made for brake tube use. There are even some foreign auto makers (like VOLVO) now using Cunifer in new car production, keeping in mind how "SAFETY" oriented that Volvo always has been. This stuff won't rust, and bends and flares SO EASY. Great stuff! Click on the link BELOW for the "Cunifer" web site.

Slight correction : It is not "copper-plated steel", but an alloy of copper and nickel. Other than that, it is good stuff. I used it to re-plumb the brakes on my "beater" '99 F150. It bends easily and flares easily. I even like the way it looks. I believe other high-end European makes are now using it as well.

The other term for this type of brakeline is "NiCop".

One thing to note, hopefully you have a quality double-flaring tool (and know how to use it) - it is mandatory to do high pressure brake lines.

That's why more than one of my posts end with:

".....but WTF do I know?"

To add to what Coop provided, for a 1/4" brake tubing you need this size and type:

1/4" tube x 7/16-24 MALE TUBE NUT FOR INVERTED FLARE CONNECTION

I'm not sure, but I think F1s use 3/16" pipe.

I too believe they use 3/16 in '52

Ford went to 3/16 in 49 sedans, maybe the trucks did too.

You guys are amazing- Thanks for the info! I plan on ordering the flare tool along with the lines and will practice till I get it 100 percent dialed. I'm actually home now so will just measure what I got as per Coopman before I order.

Thank you!
