Mark,
I will show the newer old Ford at some point. Have seen it twice. I don't want to make it the current owner upset. He has been very accommodating. With a similar theme as the 32 truck the 79 truck appears to be complete and unmolested. Pretty rare to find that any more as most of these trucks have had some replacement parts due to damage or rust out.
It's one of those things where it's not cheap, and do I really need another toy? I can say that it drove like a 79! It's far from perfect. But better than a lot of them.
Regards,
Chris

Hey Chris - would that have had a Big-Block Ford GAS engine in it? If so, that sucker will drink the fuel! LOL. Come on now . . . get the pictures up here!

Dale, Folks,
Shifting gears (some pun intended) to a different Ford truck. ((No I do not own it))

A interesting truck for sure. Not fancy, a Ranger package. F350, 400 engine, Warner 4 spd. radio delete, small mirrors, like all of them this age some pluses and some minuses too. It drives like a 1979 truck! the firestone wide oval tires are still in place with matching spare.

There is a up coming car show this weekend. I should be able to drive the 32 to the event about 2 miles from home. Should be a good time. No I havent done a thing on the B engine recently. Working on yard work, some puppy training, and extracting honey, visiting and being lazy.

Regards,
Chris

Good looking truck! I know what you mean about how they used to ride. My Uncle and I decided we needed a "hunting rig" to take from SD to CO for deer hunting season.

The rational was, that he didn't want to take his modern, nice-new trucks on trips up into the mountains, through the mud, get branch scratches on them, etc.. We had a particularly bad experience the year before (brand new truck) - so he did NOT want to repeat it.

So - it seemed like a reasonable thing to find a good solid older truck. So, he bought a 1980 or so Chevy 2500 4-wheel drive (3/4 ton) - ran great, no rust, etc. Well, after one 8-hour trip in that sucker - we all decided "Enough of this BS" - these old trucks are miserable to ride in!

So much for the "Hunting Rig" . . . it never strayed far from home again . . .

Dale,
Folks,
Yes I am also very spoiled driving our 15 F250 SuperCrew. The 6.7 pulls really good and it rides good for a big truck.
I still like the square headlight 79's, even though I am old enough to have owned a brand new 79 truck.
Regards,
Chris

Boy, if you don’t own that, I should!!.....it’s nice to see one that hasn’t got a 6” lift and those great big tires on it!!....pleasant color to look at too. The only complaint I had about my F-100 was the small mirrors. Couldn’t hardly see where ya been........Mark

Mark,
Its a looker for a old unit. One of these was on my list before I bought the 32. That seems to be the problem there's always a new toy out there too!
Weather is just perfect hear. I can hear the bees still cleaning out the honey frames. Ruby is playing. And a frosty beverage is close by.
Regards,
Chris

I put on of those on it's side when I was 15. 1972 460 rear wheel drive. Had no problem doing 100mph on a country road. Good or bad. Beast.

Folks,
Well it doesnt look real good on the 79. Just need way more money than I am willing to part with right now.
Back to the 32, went to well attended car show at local church. This was at the end and most of the cars were gone. If I stopped yackking and took some pictures it would have been better:
John's nice 48 ford in the background. Maybe 60+ cars and trucks attended.

Also talked to Redpond2 and he is making steady progress on his 32 big Red dumptruck also. He still needs 3 rims for his truck. Any out there??
Regards,
Chris

Folks,
Some movement on the 32 B engine tuning. John and I took the engine assembly back to the machine shop. The machinest will check and adjust any of the fits on the crank and rod journals. He is going to assemble the engine to assure he has the fits that are desired. Thanks to Snyder's (Kevin) for information on the detailed spec for the clearances. Hopoe to have this back in a few weeks. Machinist run to a different clock/ time than the rest of the universe, so we will see.
Also thanks to Berts Model A parts for a set of manifold studs, heavy washers and nuts.
Also a shout out to Robert R in Wyoming for the leads on parts!

Regards,
Chris

Folks,
Very quiet here on the barn lately. Summer fun has taken over. Car show with the 32 last Friday night. I heard one local say I parked next to the 32 so his car would get some folks near it too. The 32 does draw in some folks to look at original patina for sure. Saturday was a parade with the Grandson Mike at the wheel and his daughter Chloe between us.
Then to a display event at a historic house nearby.
Sunday I hauled the 32 to a truck and tractor show in Alexander NY about 2.5 hours each way. Had a grand time. Yes the 32 was well recieved there too. Seems to be a theme here.
Metting one of my goals to get this truck out so folks can see it!
Changed oil yesterday and added some block sealer agsain to the rad/ cooling system to try to stop the pesky water leak.
Took it for a ride in the evening to see the great grand kids.
Pictures coming.
Regards.
Chris

Chris have you worked on the gears and mechanics to get the bed raised up yet ?? Maybe build a mockup safety bar to lock it in place if you ever do raise it up ?? Or even just for looks at a car show once in a while. And lots of yellow caution tape to keep lookie-loos at a safe distance.

We just had an accident at my workplace yesterday two men were injured when the tommy-gate of their modern flatbed slipped free of the safety latch and knocked them clear off their feet. Neither was severely injured but they were shaken up really bad. Glad you are still having fun with the 32.

Al, Folks,
Yikes, glad those guys were not badly injured! Your thoughts on the activation of the dump bed at a car show are right on the money! I was thinking the same things. If I was to raise it for show it would need a safety prop of some type to allow it to rest at a safe location. maybe a 4x4 across the frame and lower the box on to that? Good safety suggestions! Yes it is somewhat operational. I have raised it only 4 times in one year.
See if I can load some pictures. of the recent events. Car show last night in Edinboro PA and the lot was packed. Again the 32 dump got lots of looks and wonderful comments and questions. Had a great time, was invited to go by a local guy that may have a nice driver car that could be for sale, but it is a mid 60's Comet, so it wont fit in here very well. Just another toy I was drooling over. Might be good for Cheryl and I to putz around in too?

Regards,
Chris

That is a reverse lock out...had one on a '41 Ford pickup (with 4 cylinder and non synchro trans). Your truck is wonderful, btw.

Moose,
Thanks hope things are good down south!
Folks,
Funny that reverse lock out had worked well for a year. I got in there and was tuning up the shifter the other day to improve the ease of shifting. It was sticking bad between second and third. I welded up the ball on the lower part of the shifter lever. This brought the lever vertical up just enough to allow the lower end of the shift lever to have some needed clearance. At the same time I adjusted the threaded stop in the lock out lever. The locking feature was too low and was possibly causing binding. It was very loose threaded assembly at the top of the lever rod , thumb lever. It stripped the threads from the cross pin the other night. Luckly I was able to just pull up the rod to get the tranny in reverse to move around.
So I took it back apart and did a farmer fix to secure the threaded cross stop to the rod. The next guy can fix it to be adjustable! Sorry this may not match what a lot of folks would do. But for now it works good and the shifter is smooth as it can be in a 1.5 ton truck, with a non syncro tranny. Double clutching and getting the RPM's correct are the key to less grinding of the gears!
Just a minor bump in the road of many small improvements to the 32 truck.
Called the machine shop and he is going to try to work on my "B" engine rotating assembly this week. Looking forward to getting a good running engine in the truck!
Hope things are good in Ford Land!
Regards,
Chris

Bob, Folks,
That is good information for the big trucks!
Mine was beyond the 4" dimension I am pretty sure.
What is worn the most on mine is the socket portion of the shift tower.
Thanks again for getting down into the details for this type of info!
Just started another project here. Removing the old vinyl siding on the house, sealing up any areas, house wrap, new windows, then new vynil siding to match the shop. Yes there will probably be pictures of that too.
Regards,
Chris
