Dwell Meter for 6V?
Where can I buy a decent dwell meter for a 6 volt system?
A couple days back I promised I would check the dwell on my 53 that I have gapped at 0.016, but I don’t own a dwell meter. I had hoped my Fluke 115 Multimeter could do this but it does not have a duty cycle function (that I can find anyway). So I am back to looking for an actual dwell meter. I saw a nice looking Sears Dwell meter on eBay, but then I saw it was only for a 12 volt system. So I assume that won’t work for me. |

Re: Dwell Meter for 6V?
I got mine from eBay for $25. It is unpowered, so not voltage sensitive, It works fine and allowed me to get my '51 running even better by getting the total dwell set properly on the Mallory dual point. Mine came with the original manual which even had a procedure for calibrating it.

I use my lathe as a distributor machine and just use a 12v battery as the power source for my sears meter https://youtube.com/shorts/P7R9-Yynx...=share http://

Re: Dwell Meter for 6V?
Thats pretty cool ! I'll have to figger that out for my lathe. I have an old Sun machine That needs, well, a bunch of repair so this might be a better solution

Re: Dwell Meter for 6V?
I have three: an inexpensive hand held, my old Sears Engine Analyzer (I have had for over 40 years) and my favorite, a Snap-On MT-415, I bought off of e-bay and then cleaned it up.
The 415 doesn't use any batteries at all. All power is provided by the coil. The owners manual (I called Snap-On and they e-mail me a copy of the owners manual) states: Simplified Operation: One simplified control and hook-up takes care of all tachometer and dwell reading. The meter section can easily be adjusted to obtain the most comfortable and easy-to-read viewing angle. It can be used on 6 or 12 volt, negative or positive ground systems. Works on 4, 6 and 8 cylinder engines. A quick search on e-bay: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...&_osacat=10073 Last edited by Merc Cruzer; 08-01-2022 at 11:27 AM. |
