Defroster Hose Source
Does anyone know of a source for the hoses that go from the heater to the defrost vents on a ‘48 Super Deluxe?

Re: Defroster Hose Source
Aircraft spruce has the HBD/Thermoid Aeroduct types of hose used in aviation. The CAT & CEET are a black neoprene rubber impregnated fiberglass cloth with CAT being single wall and CEET being double wall type hose. The SCAT & SCEET are constructed the same way except they use the red high temp silicon impregnated fiberglass covering. All have a reinforcement wire inside and are available in a multitude of different diameters. It is generally sold by the foot.
If you use this type duct, you have to be careful how you cut it since the wire is inside. I start the cut, clip the wire with wire cutters, and bend the wire to allow for fit up over another tube. This required the wire be trimmed down inside to leave a spot for clamp up. The bending back of the wire keeps it from trying to tear back through the cover and keeps the form round like it should be. The double wall stuff lasts for years of use and abuse. The Robinson R44 helicopters use a lot of this stuff to duct engine air intake, heater & defroster air, and cooling air for drive train components. They use the small diameter stuff to cool avionics in the instrument panel by use of a small cooler fan just for that purpose. |
