Default Cleaning Gray Pot Metal Carburetor

I need to clean inside and out several "Gray Pot Metal M/S Carburetors". What can I use that will not stain or permanently change the color of the gray metal? I would like to soak overnight since they are very dirty. I appreciate all info and advice.

I drop mine in a gallon of carb cleaner, they come out pretty nice, you may need a small brush if the outer crud is thick.

I use a ultrasonic cleaner from harborfreight with simple green 1/2 and distilled water 1/2 for all my small parts including carburetors. Can't say how it would do without the sonic cleaner but it's cheap stuff and harmless to the environment.

I've thought about trying soaking a few marvel carb housings in Marine Clean and hot water, overnight. Marine Clean works real good on gas tanks. Anybody ever try it ?

I use an old ultrasonic foot washer with TIDE & PURPLE aquarium gravel. Works good for bolts, washers, nuts, etc, also.
At garage sales I ask if they have a container of bolts, nuts, washers, screws, etc. After cleaning, you'd be surprised at the treasures you find! Bill W.
