He's not usually depicted wearing a hat. In some early photos, he's wearing a derby hat (aka bowler hat in the UK).

He wore a Homburg in the 30’s/40’s… Edsel was the dressed man, he was considered one of the top ten best, when men actually dressed

Henry wore hats that fit the times he lived in and the weather likely played a part as well.

The Boater and Bowler hats would have been in the time that they were popular. He wore the boater when he was out at the farm in the summer months. The bowler was likely worn in cooler months of the year. Those types sort of gave way to the Fedora and Homburg types in the later years of his life.

Thanks for posting pictures. Henry wore a bunch of different hats. I never noticed that before.

Fathers and sons have had difficult relationships since fathers and sons began. The indictment of Henry Ford for being a lousy father indicts millions of fathers … but hey, it sold books. Schadenfrude, taking joy in the misfortune of others, is a human affliction, cheap book writers have taken advantage of that since writing began.

Hat in the Ring was the symbol for the 94th Aero Squadron of WWI which Rickenbacker was a member - and one of three Aces.
